The Best Gas Mileage Cars

    View:
Unfortunately, there are a lot of experts who fear that gas prices will continue to rise significantly over the rest of the year.

The public is now desperate for ways to increase gas mileage and save money on gas.

What are your options when there are so many different crackpot methods online? Just today we saw a television news station advising drivers to fill up their gas tanks in the morning when gas is cooler and more condensed, as a way of getting more for your money. Liquids do take up less volume when they are cold, but this advice is not going to make a massive difference to your gas bill.

This outdated advice may have been true once-we don't know for sure-but we do know that today gas stations store fuel below ground in 30,000-gallon tanks. That means gas stays at relatively the same temperature and does not expand and contract with daily cycles.

We've seen all sorts of other bad advice that's outdated, ill-advised or just outright fraud. Claims that devises which bleed air into the carburetor can dramatically increase gas mileage turn out not to be true when put to the test under closely monitored conditions.

Face it-with a long-term gas crises looming ahead, there are plenty of governmental bodies and even private industries that have good reason to want to help you save on gas. So counting down, here are the top 10 tips that you can use to really help save money on gas and reduce consumption:

10. You should always have your tires inflated properly as per the manufacturer's guidelines. Under inflated tires make the vehicle run less efficiently and waste gas. In fact, it can be estimated that for every 1lb of under inflation, you could be losing up to 5% of your gas mileage.

9. Don't be an aggressive driver. Jackrabbit starts, tire screeching stops and speeding can lower your gas mileage by 5% on city streets and as much as 33% on highways. Try to anticipate stops ahead of time so that you can ease up on the gas and coast to the stop, and accelerate less aggressively to conserve your gas.

8. Avoid excessive idling. You waste a gallon of gas for every 15 minutes your car is left idling. Whenever possible, time your traveling to avoid lingering at traffic lights and reduce the amount of time you let your car warm up. If the weather is warm outside, the most effective way to get an engine up to temperature is actually just by driving. Idling is the worst thing you can do - you get zero miles to the gallon if your car is running but not moving!

7. Slow down. The faster you go, the less efficiently your vehicle uses gas. 55 is the most efficient mph on highways. Go above 60 and your fuel efficiency decreases rapidly.

6. Remove excess weight. If you're used to driving around with your golf clubs and a chain saw in your trunk, you're paying a heavy price for it. Removing an extra 100 pounds from your car will increase your fuel efficiency by as much as 2%.
The Best Gas Mileage Cars
As the price of gas becomes more and more unpredictable everyday, many are searching for ways to improve gas mileage. There is a growing consensus among leading experts that predict that the current price of gas may continue to rise dramatically if conditions do not improve in the middle east. To combat this growing problem, we all need to do what we can to improve our gas mileage in our vehicles. Below are 7 ways that you can use now to improve fuel mileage.

Number 1: Do a thorough cleaning of your car and take out anything that is not necessary. The more stuff that weighs down your car the more strain it puts on the engine.

Number 2: Take a look at your cars owner's manual and on use the recommended octane rated gasoline. It is not always true that a higher octane rating will lead to better gas mileage.

Number 3: Don't let your car sit and idle for long periods of time. As your car idle's, all your doing is tossing money out the window.

Number 4: Don't drive like a maniac and keep your speed in line with the speed limit's. Driving erratically involving sudden acceleration will suck gas out of your tank very quickly.

Number 5: Head around to the side of your car and test the gas cap to make sure it has a good seal. If your gas cap is loose then the gas can evaporate easily leading to a loss of fuel.

Number 6: Check your air filter and make sure it is clean with each oil change. When your air filter is clogged it can dampen the fuel efficiency of the engine.

Number 7: Head down to your local mechanic and make sure that your oxygen sensors are working correctly. When you have a bad oxygen sensor it will supply more gas than needed to the engine.

There are a lot of individuals who have witnessed great increases in fuel economy with these tips. Be sure to keep them in mind the next time you go to fill up your car. There are other ways to improve gas mileage but these are some of the best. It only takes a moment to perform some of these ideas but they can save you a nice amount of money in the long run. If you think about it, it sure beats spending a lot of money on a hybrid.
