The story of two judges, David and Solomon and what they both decreed is found in the following verses:



Surah (Chapter) 21:78-79

78] And remember David and Solomon, when they gave judgment in the matter of the field into which the sheep of certain people had strayed by night: we did witness their judgment.

79] To Solomon we inspired the (right) understanding of the matter: to each (of them) we gave judgment and knowledge; it was our power that made the hills and the birds celebrate our praises, with David: it was we who did (all these things)

The verses reveal that Allah is the knower and were witness to the judgment of David and Solomon.

The verses say: "And, mention, David and Solomon" that is, their story when they gave judgment concerning the tillage, a field of crops or a vineyard, when the sheep of a certain people strayed into it, that is, [when these sheep] grazed there at night, but without a shepherd, because they had escaped; and We were witnesses to their judgment. Have a look at their interesting judgments:

David decreed: to the owner of the tillage belong the head of the sheep. It means that the owner of the sheep would lose all of his sheep ineradicably!

Solomon decreed: the owner of the sheep shall work in the tillage until it is restored to its original state;

In the intervening time, the owner of the tillage shall benefit from [the use of] their milk, offspring and wool until such time as the tillage is restored to its original state at the hands of the owner of the sheep, after which he [the owner of the tillage] should return them [the sheep] to him [their owner].

It means that the owner of the sheep would get back all of his sheep.

The thing is that both judgments were correct.

David applied the law as it is and no one could blame him but the owner of the sheep would lose all of his sheep for good and one party would be satisfied which is the owner of the tillage while the other one is lost!

That is why Allah said:" to Solomon we inspired the (right) understanding of the matter" However, both of their decisions were correct. Then Allah honored both of them and to each, of the twain, Allah gave judgment, prophet hood, and knowledge.

David was happy of Solomon judgment; he made it relevant and abrogated his decision; and Allah honored him and disposed the mountains to glorify [the Lord] with David, and the birds also, were disposed to glorify [the Lord] with him.

The verses say that Allah is the knower and were witness to the judgment of David and Solomon.

Indeed, it is Allah who is the doer of all these things.

The Quran is not a historical book and this story and any other stories in the Quran are not for entertainment, their purpose is to teach us their wisdom.

It is interesting that the Quran mentions a story like this about the two judges, David and Solomon and their different decisions; both of them were correct but Solomon's was smooth and kind; David welcomed it and Allah honored both of them.

On the other hand, this story is not mentioned in the Bible.
