The first 12 months are very important in the growth and development of your baby. Dra-matic changes are taking place in all areas of growth and development. Most babies will double their birth weight by gaining an average of 0.5 oz to 1 oz every day for the first 6 months of life, and triple their birth weight between 9 to 12 months. By their first birthday, most babies have grown about 10 inches in length. Their head circumference normally in-creases 0.25 to 0.5 inches per month.
When you take your baby in for their checkup the doctor or nurse will take three measure-ments:
Weight
Undress your baby completely, diaper and all. The doctor will place him on a scale to weigh him. The doctor or nurse will be able to tell you your baby's weight in pounds to the closest ounce.
Length
While your baby is lying down he will be measured from the top of his head to the bottom of his heel. Some pediatricians use a device that has a headboard and a movable foot-board so they can easily get accurate results.
Head circumference
In order to measure your baby's head, the doctor will place a flexible measuring tape where his head has the largest circumference ? just above their eyebrows and ears, and around the back of his head where it slopes up from his neck.
If your baby was born 5 weeks early, her numbers will be compared with babies who are 5 weeks younger than your baby. Some pediatricians use "preemie" growth charts when measuring your . Whichever growth chart is used your pediatrician will take into account that your baby was born prematurely.
You shouldn't worry needlessly about these percentages because each child is an individ-ual and will develop at his own pace. These measurements are a general guide to help you and your pediatrician assess your baby's growth and development.
If you are concerned about your baby's growth or development, you should talk to your pediatrician. They will understand that you are just a concerned parent and you want the best for your new baby.
The First Year Of Life
Time to reflect on what the last year meant to you.
What did you do that you are most proud of?, What makes you smile? What accomplishements did you make? What friends did you make? How has your life improved?
On the flip side, what can you learn from the errors you made?
What decisions would you change? What did not work for you?
I do love reflecting at this time of the year, because it is a time for new beginnings, a change in your path for the year ahead.
Be smart, be reflective, be the change you want to be!
In '08 some of the things I am most happy about are......
In starting my own blog, I have learned a great deal about the art of blogging, internet marketing, social media marketing, etc.
I have met so many wonderful people and have learned from people whom I have never met from all over the world!
I have learned to think globally, to think we are all one and in this game of life together.
I also had the time of my life meeting my new hockey mom friends.
Little did I know that attending a high school hockey game last year would change my social life forever!!
Here is a short video on youtube I made of our Summer together!

These friends have put a perma-smile on my face and heart. They accepted me with unconditional love and what a gift that is.
In a years time, I can not imagine my life now without my hockey mom friends! No doubt there is some soul connection here!
Moreover, I learned what it takes to set up a home business and the discipline it takes.
On the flip side, I cherish the freedom a home business gives you! I love getting a call on my 'bat phone' and in 20 minutes I am socializing with friends. A sense of urgency at its finest!
I have learned from business decisions I made and will adjust in '09.
All in all, '08 was one of the greatest years ever! My pocketbook may have taken a hit, but my mind body and soul have soared.
For this, I am eternally grateful for yet the best year of my life!
How was your '08?
Wishing you blessings and your best year ever in '09!
