When you think about wearing jewelry what usually comes to mind are things like rings, necklaces, and bracelets. These are common jewelry articles that have been made and worn throughout history. Gypsies from old European cultures were always known for the jewelry they would wear. Some items they would make and wear were necklaces and other things made from their coins. This was done for adornment because evidently they liked the look, but as most gypsies were nomadic, it was an easy way to transport their wealth with them. When gypsies migrated to the United States they would use medallions instead of real coins because in the U.S. it was illegal to deface money. Coin jewelry is still worn today.
The bolo tie is somewhat like a pendant except for the fact that is was and still is mostly worn by cowboys in the west. The slide, which is usually of a western theme, has a loop in the back side for the purpose of threading a leather or nylon neck string through it. The ends of the string have metal tips. This item takes the place of a tie.
They are a dressy item and on cowboy types are considered quite stylish. In 1971 Arizona declared that the bolo tie was to be the states official neck wear. In 2007 the governor of New Mexico signed a bill that also declared that it was their states official neck wear as well.
Watches are common wear as jewelry, but when the watch is on your finger it could look a little strange, but if you do a little searching you can find them. There are some newer ones with Disney characters and some vintage ones with heart designs and other things. They are really a novelty to wear.
Toe rings have become fairly popular in western cultures lately. In India wearing them is very common by married women and they are called bichiya. They are worn on the second toe of each foot and they usually match, sometimes they are worn on more toes, except for the pinky toe. In the past they were not allowed to be made of gold because Hindus are not supposed to wear gold below the waist, some women do choose to wear them made of gold anyway.
These are only a few uncommon jewelry items that are found today, and who knows what we might be wearing tomorrow.
