I see a lot of people out there claiming that more and more home based businesses are scams. What is the reality of these claims? Are they real or is it just perception? If I chose to start a home based business and invested my hard earned money into one of these things and lose it all, is it a scam or did I do something wrong? Do they set you up for failure? Most of them have been around for at least a couple of years so they have to know the statistics. Are the innocent takers of the deal just an experiment to these people, or maybe they're just trying to find the next super sales star, but if you're not it, your aced out!
These are all questions I have actually asked myself through the countless times that I failed at a home based business. I have been an entrepreneur for fourteen years now and I have to say, every time I lost money to a MLM or home based business that it was my own fault. At the time I always said ?Scam? or found any other excuse but to blame myself and it actually took me years to look back and figure out that I let myself down in all the ventures that I ever started.
I have actively been involved in Jewel Way, Amway, Melaleuca, web T.V, Quick star, Herbalife, My world plus, Liberty league and Global Resorts Network to name a few. In comparison I have also started three small businesses from a shoe string including one residential construction, one landscape construction and one non-profit organization. Being very successful at business development and thriving in operations management of two fortune 500 companies I can't say that I don't have the aptitude, ability or drive that it takes to build a successful business and make it thrive. I have to say that the easiest of the three options is to run someone else's business if you can stand to work for someone else ?which I can't?. The second in the easy chain would be a local small business which is not at all easy but none-the-less ranks # 2 on my easy list. The pain that this entails could make you go hungry or want to inflict harm on a customer at times ?just not worth the stress?, that's why I built them to sell!
The last type of business which you are obviously here to read about is the ?Home Based Business, or Work From Home Opportunity, or MLM? which is needless to say ?A Special Breed?. This is not an easy thing to generalize so I will explain the variables. The first most common perceived myth in a home based business is that you will immediately be able to replace your income and become financially independent by just throwing some money at it ?The get rich quick thing?. Even if your mentor (the person who signed you up) is maintaining a healthy income that doesn't guarantee you will; even if you do the same thing they do! The first variable is the product. Is there a long list of products you will have to learn? Is the product competitively priced in the market? Keep in mind, the fewer products the better. It's easier to master one product and be successful in a shorter period of time, plus bookkeeping is a lot easier. The second variable is the profit margin, pay plan and the amount of commission distributed which is essential to building a successful home based business. The third thing you will need to know (through the pay plan) is the effectiveness and lucrativity of mentoring your sales team and systems in place to help you do this. The very last thing that you should check out is; do you have to maintain or pay yearly or quarterly dues to maintain your distributor status. This is very important because more often than not people get discouraged within their first month or two and quit the business. So if you realize the errors of your ways a year down the line are you going to have to pay the initial signup fees ?Again? if you didn't pay your monthly or quarterly dues?
The reality is that nine times out of ten people didn't understand what the business entailed, failed and then cried ?Scam?, which I have even done myself. If you find the right product, margin, pay plan and mentor you can be successful. The rule of thumb is to find these attributes, become a creature of habit (commit 2 or more hours per day) and stick with it for a minimum of three months through your development period. At that time I guarantee you will break ground and start to bring home the bacon. The key is to follow-through which 7 out of 10 people do not naturally exercise.
After fourteen years I finally found the right opportunity for me. It consists of one product, great value, virtually no competition, anyone would want it, Huge profit margins, commissions and pay plan, a great mentor and most importantly a one time, lifetime membership. To be quite honest I did try to start up this same business a year and a half ago and gave up and got distracted a month later (just like I talked about earlier). The great thing is that I realized the errors of my ways and ?poof? my membership is still active! Unlike any other system I've tried before.
