The Indianapolis Childrens Museum

    View:
How can a parent make a vacation getaway the utmost in memorable experiences for their children? There are a few certain aspects that the truly caring parent will look for in their summer vacation time for their children. There is the aspect of fun. A good parent will realize that children have fun on a different level than that of adults. Simply going to an art museum and looking at painting is not going to make for a memorable excursion for a child. Next, there is the learning aspect. A caring adult will want his or her child to get more than just fun, but actually grow from their vacation experience. What we end up with here is fun and learning, difficult aspects to mix into one equation. However, it is not impossible. A clever parent will find ways to integrate both of these into each of the child's experiences while still having a good time themselves.

Take the Children's Museum in Boston Massachusetts for example. Not only will your child go home with the memory of a fun and exciting vacation attraction, but they will also carry home a little more knowledge than they arrived with. The Boston Children's Museum accomplishes this through a hands on approach, as opposed to the usual stand back and look, don't touch, technique utilized by most museums.

The exhibits at the Boston Children's Museum are constantly changing from day to day. One never knows what to expect with each visit, but the one thing that you can count on is the fact that your kids will enjoy it and it is all hands on stuff! The exhibits are all thrilling for the children to play with, but at the same time each one will teach them something that will stay with them for a lifetime, whether they realize it or not. The museums children's activities encompass the many aspects of nature, outer space, architecture, gravity, culture, various forms of art, and even health and biology and many more. All those questions of "how does this work," are answered here at the Boston Children's Museum.

Food is not allowed out into the museum exhibits, due to small cracks and spaces that might hide a morsel and attract insects, but the Boston Children's Museum does feature an eating area on floor one with all kinds of tasty kid oriented snacks, so the parents do not have to worry about bringing food. There are restrooms on every floor for that quick break or sudden emergency and a good number of helpful staff members that have been trained in the exhibits as well as in working with children. These individuals help to entertain the children and show them how everything works, allowing the parents a moment to just stand back and enjoy their kids' smiles.

As a good parent, we realize that you want the best for your children in education and in simple good times and memories. It's all there at your feet in the wonderfully magical world of the Boston Children's Museum.

The Miami Children's Museum (MCM) is a fantastic place to take kids. MCM is packed with interactive exhibits and plenty of opportunities to get children involved with a positive learning environment. The museum is located at 980 MacArthur Causeway in Miami, Florida. It is open everyday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and costs $12 for adults and children. Miami residents get half off, and all MCM members get in free.

The MCM, founded in 1983, spans over 56,500 square feet, including 12 galleries, a resource center, classrooms, a gift shop, a Subway restaurant, and a comfortable 200-seat auditorium. The faculty at the MCM dedicates its time to getting children interested in art, culture, language, and the Miami community. A family membership at MCM is $150. This allows the entire family (plus one guest) entrance into the museum for a year, plus special invitations to MCM events, priority when registering at the museum, and a 10% discount at the gift shop. All members become eligible for the Association of Children's Museums Reciprocal Membership Program.

There are some cool events at MCM this fall. On October 25, 2008, come see the Blue Man Group's traveling exhibit called Making Waves. Kids can play along with the Blue Man Group and learn about music and sound. Members can invite their grandparents to MCM on September 7, 2008 for the Grandparents Day Breakfast. This event, sponsored by Humana, is a celebration of our grandparents from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.

The museum is loaded with fun exhibits. Kids can climb through the Castle of Dreams, explore MCM's six-foot piggy bank, run around in the Health & Wellness Center, crawl around in the Pet Center, dress up in the Safety Zone, shop at the Supermarket, act in the Television Studio, set up a home in Meet Miami, get wet in The Sea and Me and jam in the World Music Studio. These are only some of MCM's many exciting and educational exhibits. Visit www.miamichildrensmuseum.org for more information.
