In a truly competitive NFL domain, it is heartwarming to see players do something for the community. Honestly, there just have been so few instances of players being involved in community service. One of the latest instances that the mind could go to immediately is the event where couple of players from the New England Patriots team was honored at the Children's Hospital Boston event.
Quarterback Matt Cassel and Defensive linesman, Vince Wilfork were a part of the honoring event. They were honored for their outstanding service to the community and the hospital. "Champion Award" is an annual award that is given to athletes from Boston, who demonstrate and prove a lot of contribution to the society and its welfare. With all the good work done for the hospital, Matt and Vince both won the Champion Award in a glittering yet simple function.
Though, it really is not fair to analyze the reasons behind this award, but it surely would benefit you if you know what made Matt and Vince top favorites to win this award. Both Matt and Vince had visited this hospital earlier this year, and made room-room visits with patients. Ask Vince and he would tell you that more than anything it is his life and events in the past that allows him to do such community welfare tasks. Definitely, both Matt and Vince, share the concerns of young kids, and visiting them in their hospital is a kind gesture indeed.
One may say that such instances are far and few between. Some critics who are out of their senses may also say that players do this to push up their popularity ratings up. In this case, one thing is for sure - Both these players did have nothing to do with popularity ratings. If some reports are to be believed, these players had asked the media not to cover this event, as they wished to keep this low-profile.
It truly was an NFL gathering at that with all the big names from New England Patriots assembling to celebrate the noble deeds of their teammates. President of the Team, Jonathan Krafft, Wesley Britt, an offensive tackler were also seen present at the event. You could see the camaraderie in the team when they were announced to collect their awards. But perhaps, the most touching moment of the evening came when both the players made their speeches.
Both Matt and Vince told the audience on how events in their personal life had led them to do community service. Anyone who would have listened to the speech would have said that it was only their noble intentions that led them to do this. In fact, Vince even went on to quote the example of his father. By the end of the speech, everyone present in the hall was moved, and of course, so were the children.
One may not be able to tell for sure on how Matt and Vince perform on the field. But with this act of humanity, they have gone a long way in establishing themselves in the hearts of the many children in the hospital. Matt and Vince, Way to go!!
The New England Colonies
There are a lot of different types of wood fence that you may see in the Boston area. For example, you'll see a lot of cedar privacy fencing in suburban yards. However, in the city proper you'll see smaller yards, more distinctive architecture and different types of fencing to mesh with these conditions. In Boston, you'll see a little less fencing than you will in many other cities. Why? Well, while Boston has the fifth highest population density among major U.S. cities, it also is small in terms of land mass ? third smallest, in fact! However, the classic and timeless look which only a wood fence can achieve lends itself perfectly to this, a city with so much history that it's there to be found around every corner.
If you're interested in putting up wood fence on your property, then you'll need to determine which fence design best meets your needs and the look of your home. Suburban Bostonians have a lot of options for fencing. 6' cedar privacy fencing is not uncommon in suburban areas, but the traditional stockade picket fence is more common and fits the look of new constructions as well as the older colonial homes and the new homes which take their look as a template.
In the city proper, the homeowner can decide what works best for the particular features of their home. Brownstones which are common in many neighborhoods often have low picket fencing out front which delineates property lines without hampering the sense of close-knit community which is famously a part of Boston neighborhoods. Backyard Boston wood fencing may feature either these same low picket fences or higher basketweave privacy fences which turn a backyard even in the most crowded urban area into your own private oasis.
Based on homeowners who have located Boston wood fence contractors to build their fencing, we can give you a good idea of how much you'll pay to have a wood fence built. In the Boston area, the cost for most wood fence installation by contractors we work with is somewhere between $1,000 and $4,000, with $2,500 being the average cost with materials and labor. The job generally took a speedy two weeks, with four weeks being the slowest and eight days the fastest. Naturally, the longer the job takes, the more expensive it will tend to be.
So for you as a Greater Boston homeowner, what does all of this mean? For homeowners, it's actually good news. The prices of Boston wood fencing are more or less consistent in the area ? so as long as you find a good contractor to work with, you can be sure of getting your money's worth out of your wood fence. For a Boston wood fence, cedar is what you want. The hot, humid summers and harsh winters; not to mention the Nor'easters and offshore storms seen here call for durable woods. Cedar's natural oils repel moisture, making the best choice for the sometimes harsh weather of New England.
If you want a cedar fence to stay looking its best and protected from weather damage, you should treat it every five to ten years; a small price to pay for a wood fence which looks great and will last. If you don't use cedar, pressure treated lumber is the next best option. Be sure to paint it if you want to keep that fence around for a long time though.
Finally, always do your research into any wood fence contractor you're thinking of using and evaluate their track record. It may take a little of your time, but it's well worth it for a fence which will hold up over the long run.
