For instance, the sense of touch helps us figure out if something is too hot or too cold. We can decide whether or not to put on a coat to keep us warm, or to look for shade or water to cool ourselves down.
If we see, hear or smell something disturbing, we know to be cautious and perhaps retreat from an ominous situation. Even our sense of taste can be a warning that something is not good for us. These senses are always at work and we take for granted the role they play in guiding our every step.
The 6th Sense is often associated with intuition or clairvoyance. It too can be used to guide us if we learn to pay attention to it.
On an even larger scale there is our 7th Sense, an internal guidance system that gives us access to the entire range of human emotions, well over 3,000 of them. And like our ability to feel things on the outside through our sense of touch, our 7th Sense gives us the ability to feel things on the inside through our emotions.
Fear is Our Friend
For instance, fear is something we've all experienced and most of us would label as a negative or uncomfortable emotion. In reality, it generally comes to protect or alert us to potential danger. It heightens our sensory awareness of everything that's around us so we can be poised to protect ourselves from anything threatening or harmful.
Fear also comes to warn. If we have apprehension about a future event, fear tells us to prepare, to get ready.
Fear comes to say "You're about to encounter something new and different. Do whatever you can to prepare yourself. Be as ready as you can be so you can deal with whatever happens."
Fear motivates and drives us. The fear of failure, of rejection, or a fear of loss will often drive us to do whatever it takes to overcome those negativities. We'll tap into or explore options or resources or approaches we haven't tried in the past.
The fear of rejection often drives us to go out of our way to add value to a relationship. It causes us to make that extra effort to succeed. Fear is there to drive us in the direction of whatever it is that we really want.
And finally, fear must come in order to develop courage. Courage cannot exist and cannot be experienced or expressed without the presence of fear. Fear is often brought into the equation in order to help us tap into, develop and embrace our courage.
Fear is just one example. Think of all our other emotions, both positive and negative. What about guilt, anger, excitement or joy. What role do they play in driving us toward our desires?
Both our external 5 senses and our internal 7th Sense calibrations are there to help us navigate through life and move in the direction of our highest good and our hearts true desire. Nothing we feel is meant to hurt, hinder or destroy us. More accurately those things we think of as harmful are there to protect, warn, drive or motivate us. We've just never had an owner's manual for proper use of the system until NOW.
The Power Of Fear
That fear you feel before doing something new or different can seem overwhelming at times, in fact it stops some people dead in their tracks. However it affects you, experiencing emotional distress from fear is painful and actually physically damaging. Did you know that the fear mechanism is only designed to be for a very brief period, but when we allow ourselves to remain in a fear mode for and extended time our body is actually getting damaged? So if you want to move your life forward and keep your health managing these fears is advisable. Your personal growth is an ongoing process and part of self-discovery is finding what about your life you don't want and then to making the small changes to support what you do want.
In acting they teach actors and actresses to channel their fear. It's not that that many don't have it, but it's how they have learned to handle it. Many who perform live or speak in from of large groups are nervous every time before they do. But rather than letting this stop them they are able to channel the energy in the fear towards what they are doing. This actually transfers that heightened energy you notice with fear thoughts into their performance or presentation. Have you ever noticed that some performers seem to have a different 'personality' off stage than they do when they are performing? Many are quiet and reserved when talked to away from a performance, but when on stage they come alive with energy and boldness. I wonder where that comes from - re-directed fear perhaps.
Everyone has the ability to do this, to transfer that energy attached to fear thoughts onto something else, like what it is you want to do but feel afraid to. It's really a matter of perspective, yes, how you look at something and how you interpret it determines what you will do with it. Have you noticed how that when you have chosen to do something you feared you did it with a higher energy level than you normally operate with? This is that energy re-directed to something of your choice, which better supports what you want.
In fact sometimes your energy is so high, in a calm way that you are 'in the zone' able to do what you are doing without much conscious thought. This is how powerful it can be to channel your fear associated energy onto the task at hand particularly if you are prepared to do it. As you may have found, even being prepared for something still does not prevent you from feeling fearful about actually doing it, but preparation does make it flow better once you get yourself to go.
Choose not to allow your fears to slow or prevent your progression in life, choose to change the way you look at them so your personal dreams can be expressed fully. When you feel fear, choose to let it be and proceed as planned, and channel the fear energy into your planned actions to enhance your performance. As you do this, like with anything, over time it will get easier and easier. You will be actually re-training your unconscious thought patterns to automatically behave differently, to do it the way you want it done. Dropping the emotional reaction to logical thoughts can allow you to address them and move on. Once you have checked your hair, it's good - stop dwelling about it.
Remember that you have command of your thinking not the other way around. It may seem that your thoughts and feelings run the show, but this is because of all the default programming that was established as you were developing, unknown to you at the time. At the time you did not know any better or different so as to guide this development differently. But now you know you can change your perceptions of everything in your life, you can alter how you interpret everything that you see, and you can adjust your reactions to these as well, which in turn changes your behavior. Choose what best supports the life you want, what you want to do and how you want to feel.
Choose to adjust what is keeping you from the life you desire, personal growth and development is a daily activity.
