Looking ready for the red carpet is not only for the rich and the famous. Ordinary women like you and me can achieve this look with a few simple tricks. We don't have to buy the most expensive designer dresses, shoes and accessories. We don't even need to have our make-up done by famous make-up artists. All it takes is some creativity and a fashion sense of style of course to be able to pull off a look fitting for the stars.
Color is very much important. You need to be aware of which shades of hue give you a striking look and would work best with your skin and hair color. The color should bring out your eyes, your complexion and your hair. Cool pastel shades always work for blondes while brunettes would look best with warm tones like red and coral. Other colors like gold and silver work with almost all colors. It is best to try different colors to see which ones will make you stand out.
Having too much accessories and an elaborate dress doesn't work. Only one should be the focus which is either the dress or the accessories. A simple black dress without any adornment for example should be paired with elaborate and chunky jewelry. Solid and neutral colors would look best with colored jewels. On the other hand, your accessories should be kept at a minimum or should be simple when your dress or gown is elaborate in design with beadworks, ruffles, etc. It doesn't mean that you have to skip on the accessories, just go for smaller pieces.
While it is sad to admit that most designer fashion clothes are made for the skinny type bodies, it doesn't mean that those with full figures have to hide theirs. If you have it, then flaunt it. Show off your best asset or work on your ensemble to enhance it. If you have legs that are to die for then show them off in a gown that reveals them. If you have great looking skin, then show some skin in a backless gown for example. For people who may not feel comfortable in tight and hug fitting clothes, you can always try a body slimmer underneath.
Lastly, cap off your look with an updo (hairdo) that best compliments your red carpet look.
It wouldn't hurt if you try something new. Looks are constantly evolving but your individual fashion sense of style should be incorporated in your looks. Have fun with experimenting new looks while looking great and confident.
The Red Carpet Fashion
Before you can steal a celeb's style, you have to know which one you want. Watch some red carpet events, such as movie awards, screenings or Hollywood parties, and keep your eye out for a star that resembles your body type and complexion. A dress that looks fabulous on a dark skinned, dark haired starlet may not be as flattering if you're pale skinned and fair haired.
When you're watching these, consider that both red carpet and runway trends often run several months ahead of what's about to hit the stores. If you want to copy a recent style, you'll need to be resourceful in your shopping. Maybe you can emulate the feeling of the gown, rather than the style itself.
With that said, what seems to be in this year?
Look for strapless dresses with lean silhouettes, but avoid them if they have billowing skirts. The designer's previews for the stars highlighted monochromatic, well fitted gowns. Just-off-white and black were big hits, as were other neutrals. If you can't (or don't want to) pull off a strapless dress, look for a similarly fitted style with an interesting, asymmetrical neckline.
A few, more dramatic, gowns have revived a style reminiscent of flamenco dancers. These gowns fit tightly to the knees or calves, where they finish in a full skirt. While they're probably hard to come by in most stores, if you're handy with a needle and thread you may be able to modify a full length gown to emulate this style.
Accessories this year are low-key. Starlets have been spotted on the red carport with simple clutches and heels that match their gowns. Unlike years past, these items are being used purely as accessories, and not as statements in and of themselves.
Another accessory in short supply is jewelry. Few celebs are donning necklaces, and the ones that do wear modest pieces to accent their neckline. Dangle earrings are the accessory of choice this year, but keep them either small and bold or long and elegant.
Here are a few key points to remember when you're copying a star's look this year. Keep your eye out for strapless or asymmetrical necked classical dresses in neutral or light colors. Choose a handbag and heels that will complement your gown. Don't overdo the jewelry, but definitely use earrings to make a statement or play up your hair.
Since the styles this year all revolve around the classical and the classy, copying and shopping should be simple, and you should be able to duplicate the star's looks on a budget.
