Leather is a material produced by the tanning of animal hides and skin, specifically the hides of cattle. Skin is converted into a long-lasting, multipurpose fabric via the tanning process. The raw materials used in the leather industry are essentially by-products of the meat industry. Unlike layers of leather are used, ranging from bounteous-grain (taken from the top of the hide), to corrected-grain (leather that has been buffed or sanded in some guise), and split (produced from the fibrous sectors of the hide once the top-grain has been removed).



PVC or polyvinyl chloride is one of the top products of the chemical industry. A staggering 50% of PVC produced around the globe is used in construction, because the material is cost effective, has longevity, and is easy to contruct with. PVC can be softened with the addition of plasticisers, so it can be used in furniture and clothing production. In new years, concerns about the environmental impact and toxic potential of PVC present resulted in a shift towards the use of less harmful materials. Careless of this, the PVC market globally grew 5% in new years.

Leather is used in everything from furniture to clothing, from accessories to footwear. Leather is frequently used to make belts, handbags, skirts, shirts, coats, chaps, boots, sneakers, and could even be used to make chairs and office furniture. Leather may prove to be quite expensive, and myriads consumers covet both the smell and encounter of real leather. PVC is commonly used in clothing, upholstery, flooring, the manufacture of hoses, pipes, and tubing; in figurines and waterbeds, jump houses, and pool toys. 66% of household pipes in the USA are devised from PVC. Certain electronic gizmos and accessories also feature PVC ingredients to them. Flat sheets of the material could be cut and processed for use in commercial signage, with or without adhesive backing. UPVC (unplasticised polyvinylchloride) is very popular in the construction industry, being used in window frames, double glazing, window sills, fascia, side boarding, and in plumbing and drainage.

Some alternatives for leather are bamboo, which is inflexible or jute and other woven and non-woven material which is soft. Ultraleather is another alternative or substitute for real leather. Ultraleather is soft, but it's strong. Alternative materials may be used instead of PVC such as linoleum, wood, and stone for flooring, and paint and tiles for floor coverings. For vehicles, metal, textiles, and chlorine free plastics may be used. For medical usability, glass, latex, and chlorine free plastics are some of the alternative materials that may be used. For soft toys, natural rubber these as latex can be used. Wood may be an alternative for harder toys.

While leather and PVC are quite similar in terms of aesthetics and use, they are two very disparate products. Leather is naturally more durable and stronger, capable of holding up longer. PVC isn't as long lasting, but it is often much less expensive, and since it doesn't contain animal parts, it's more leading with a specific crowd. There are also new products constantly appearing in the marketplace that give consumers yet another choice. They may find products that are similar to leather, but without the problems found in PVC. These new products give shoppers more options than ever before present.
