There is a growing concern these days about how much water we use in the home today. We have a tendency to use it literally like there is no tomorrow, but chances are there will be. What if we use up all the fresh water supply we have here on Earth? What would we do then? Well, it probably would not be pretty picture. There would likely be wars to break out everywhere in an attempt to confiscate whatever water could be found.
It might seem like science fiction or something from the Mad Max movies, but at the rate the population of the world is growing and the extreme ways in which the majority of us waste water, it could be a real possibility in the future. Our future generations could have to face this situation much sooner than we could imagine if the world does not begin better protecting and conserving the precious water supply that we have now.
As adults, we must begin teaching our children by example how to be more cautious with the water we use. We can actually still have plenty to use for the things we need it for, only we have to learn not to be wasteful. Wasted water could account for a large percentage of how much we use and it is completely unnecessary. When our children see us wasting water they are more likely to grow up wasting it to.
Discuss with your children not only the importance of water conservation, but with water pollution as well. They should know that it is never alright to throw trash into the water and that dumping chemicals and other residues into our waterways by large corporations is not alright either. There are many ways a family can save water that you can implement into your daily lives.
Teach kids that it is not necessary to leave water running while they are washing their hands or brushing their teeth. This alone accounts for a lot of water waste. You might not think that id adds up to much, but when you multiply millions of Americans brushing their teeth each morning and night, well, it can add up to a huge amount of water for that alone.
Do not wash cars as often or water lawns unnecessarily. Only wash full loads of laundry and dishes. Everyone in the home can take shorter showers. Just by doing these things alone, we can save gallons and gallons every month and your kids will be protecting their future.
The Water Family Game
Who would knowingly put a strong adult prescription drug like hormone pills or male enhancement pills in the water that their children drink. No one, but in some cases that is exactly what is going in most of our water supplies. Not only are traces of drugs being found in tap water, but also even more harmful things like fertilizers and insecticides. You might think that all of our water that comes into our home has been treated and cleaned thoroughly and it has, but the methods being used are proving to just not be enough.
When you pay for your water from the city or county you live in each month, you expect it to be fit to drink. In most cases it is and water treatment facilities are doing all they can to make sure the water supply is safe. The thing is that we are polluting the ground and the water itself while it is in our home so much, it is almost impossible to completely remove everything.
We flush old pills down the toilet or sink drain. This is one way they get into the water supply. Through human waste is another. Millions of people world wide take at least one kind of medication, prescription or otherwise. When their body waste is flushed down the toilet, the drugs they have taken goes with it. It is a disgusting thing to think about, but that is how is happens.
Farmers who try to produce better crops by using fertilizers and pesticide are saturating the ground with these chemicals. They are absorbed into the ground or run off into streams or rivers when it rains or floods. We have been debating about the safety of using pesticides on crops for years assuming that they were bad for the plants they were put on to help keep insects off of them. We did not give as much thought as we should evidently about what they would eventually do to the ground and our water supply.
Using an additional filtering system in your home can help a lot in removing a lot of these undesirable elements in our water. Some people are having whole house water filter systems installed in their home that cleans all water coming into the and not just drinking water alone. If you can not afford one of these units which can cost around a thousand dollars or more, you might at least consider installing a water purifier on your kitchen and bathroom faucets.
