Things To See In China

Everywhere you look new skyscrapers are going up and have been for several years. Shanghai is a city on the move. On your trip to China be sure and visit Shanghai. This is the center and most important place of China's new economy. It is the largest cargo port in the world. It is a city of more than 18 million people and is competing with Hong Kong as the country's financial capital. Chinese Mandarin is the language the business community uses to communicate.



1. Oriental Pearl TV Tower

The tower is over 1535 feet high and is one of the highest towers in all of Asia. You can climb the tower for a beautiful panoramic view of the city.

2. Shanghai Links Golf & Country Club

A golfer's delight! This is a very luxurious 18 hole golf club designed by Jack Nicklaus and not far from downtown. There are tennis courts, swimming pool, lake, gym and a children's playing area.

3. Yu Gardens

The gardens were built in the Ming Dynasty and are over 400 years old. This is a national heritage site representing a southern Chinese style garden.

4. Huangpu River Cruise

A boat trip along the river lets you see many of Shanghai's famous sites, the silhouettes the skyline of the Pu Dong business district. In the distance you will see the Oriental Pearl TV Tower.

5. Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall

This museum shows the plans of Shanghai's urban planners for this great city. It shows how the planners envision Shanghai will look in a couple of decades. Adults will enjoy this exhibit, children may not.

6. Shanghai Museum

The Shanghai museum houses over 120,000 Chinese art pieces and archeological findings. It has bronzes, ceramics, paintings and other artifacts.

7. Nan Jing Road

Nan Jing Road is one of the major commercial streets in Shanghai and goes for just under 3.5 miles. There are more than 600 shops and shopping centers that carry top brands. The eastern part is pedestrian traffic only.

8. Huai Hai Road

With over 400 shops, restaurants and businesses, this is where the trendy people go. With the French architecture it has a very cosmopolitan charm.

9. People's Square (Renmin Guang Chang)

Surrounded by government buildings, this square is truly an urban park with beautiful greenery. There is an impressive fountain, subway station and underground shopping. This is a great place to just watch people for a while.

10. Shanghai Art Museum

There are five floors with twelve exhibit halls. They show traditional art as well as modern art. There are also art and sketching lessons you can take.

Shanghai is growing very rapidly and everywhere you look there is a building going up. China leases a large majority of the world's cranes. When you visit Shanghai you will see why. Be sure and brush up on you Mandarin Chinese. It will pay off for you on your visit here.
Things To See In China
1. Great Wall of China

A wall of about 3100 miles in length was constructed between the years 221 to 207 B. C. This is a wonder of the world. It is surrounded by spectacular views of deep cliffs.

2. Forbidden City

Known as the Former Palace, it consists of 9000 rooms and 70 structures which are mostly surrounded by high wall. Be sure and see this. It is one of a kind.

3. The Summer Palace

If you have time, spend a day here. In the residence there is a long corridor with lots of beautiful paintings. A bridge with 17 arches gives you a wonderful view of the home, grounds and gardens.

4. Lama Temple

Built in 1694, it was the residence of Prince Yin Zhen. There are five large halls, delicate archways and courtyards. You will find a lot of Buddhist art and Tibetan style murals.

5. Tiananmen Square

The People's Republic of China is represented here. The square is surrounded by Tiananmen Gate, The Forbidden City, The Great Hall of the People, The Monument of the People's Heroes and the Mao Zedong Mausoleum.

6. Temple of Heaven

Built between 1406 and 1420, this is where the emperors prayed. The Temple of Heaven was a place of reverence where many prayers were given to plead for blessings upon their crops, harvests and rain.

7. Silver Fox Cave

Beautiful stone flowers, formations, artifacts and waterfalls are seen as you ride along in a boat. And it is all below ground level. In the cave you will find it warm in the winter and cold in the summer.

8. Ming Tombs

The tombs are 31 miles northwest of Beijing. This is the burial place of 13 out of 17 emperors of the Ming Dynasty. Two of the tombs were excavated in 1958 and are open to the public.

9. Bei Hai Park

Built for recreation by the emperors, you can rent paddle boats on the river and just relax in the beautiful setting. This is a great place to sit back and relax from the hustle and bustle of the city.

10. Beijing Aquarium

See fish of all kinds, including sharks and the dolphins put on a show. There is a beautiful rain forest. Adults and children alike will like spending time here.

Travel to Beijing, China and enjoy the trip. It is a great place to visit. You may want to brush up on your Chinese before you go.
