Mistake #1: Going into too much detail explaining how you know her

A brief reminder is all she needs. You can tell her your name, and where you met her. That's it. If she needs much more than that to remember you, it wasn't going to happen anyway. Don't talk about your clothes, your dreams of the future together, and DEFINITELY don't mention your job.

Mistake #2: Your message is too long

No matter how interesting you think your day was, it sounds really needy if you feel the need to tell her the whole thing on her voicemail. If she's going to call you back, you can tell her then, right? If you were worried that she wasn't going to call you back without your funny story, then you'll just create a self-fulfilling prophecy. She can tell when you're anxious to get a call back, so don't give her extra clues.

Mistake #3: Loud/weird noises in the background.

You want your message to be completely clear when she hears your voice on the phone for the first time. If you're at a bar, or on a busy street, or doing dishes, she has to work too hard to hear you, and will not be totally relaxed when she takes your voice in and might even hang up and delete the message without hearing it. Be in a quiet place when you call.

Mistake #4: Asking her to "please" call you back.

You can say "please" at the restaurant, "please" at work, and "please" at the post office, but never say six-letter word when trying to get a woman to call you back. This is because when you say "please," you are implying that she's doing a favor by calling you back. "We'll talk later" or "Give me a call," is fine.
