1997 saw the height of Third Eye Blind's career in the alternative rock music industry. The group emphasized an optimistic attitude and a simple way of looking at life through their hit songs like “Semi Charmed Life” and “Graduate.” Frontman Stephan Jenkins still seems to hold fast to his original charms. Third Eye Blind is releasing three new songs from its forthcoming album, Ursa Major, which will be the first release in five years for the group. The Red Star EP was released digitally a few weeks ago and includes the tracks “Non-Dairy Creamer,” “Red Star” and “Why Can't You Be.”



Although Third Eye Blind seemed to fade from public perception at the close of the 1990s, they managed to stay in touch with fans through MySpace, Facebook and other forms of digital communication. With an ever-lasting presence, Third Eye Blind has held on tight to their place in the music industry, and Ursa Major will give us a better idea of where they will be in five years from now.

The current line up of Third Eye Blind includes Stephan Jenkins, Brad Hargreaves, Tony Fredianelli and Leo Kremer. Their most massive success to date is still their self-titled debut album that was released in 1997, which included the hits “Semi Charmed Life,” “Graduate,” and “How's It Going to Be” among several others that made marks on the music charts. The album sold around six million copies worldwide and immediately propelled the band into instant stardom. Their peppy sound caught on with the younger generation, especially high school students, and for a time Third Eye Blind tickets were some of the hottest items in the music market.

After their initial success, the band seemed to quiet down some with their second album, Blue, not faring nearly as well on the charts. Although some of the well known singles from that recording include “Anything,” “Never Let You Go,” and “Deep Inside of You.”

Their other album, released before a lull in recording was Out of the Vein. Even while the band was taking a break from recording, they kept touring to the delight of all of their fans. This is perhaps what has helped them keep their popularity over the years. Although the venues they played at weren't always enormous sold-out events, many of their fans remained steadfastly dedicated to their favorite 1990s band.

Ursa Major is set to be released in early 2009. The expectations are already quite high for the album, as emphasized by the popular tracks released on the EP. For fans, it perhaps signals a new start for this hot ‘90s band that never seemed to really stop moving forward. Third Eye Blind has always refused to throw in the towel. Instead of abandoning the music scene for good, they have managed to adapt with the times and change their tune in order to fit in with modern day pop/rock.
