In my opinion, car insurance is extremely important My own car is very close to my heart because I spent a large part of my income when trying to buy it. So I have made a conscious decision to get the very best in insurance for my car. One never knows when an accident might take place and the vehicle may have to be repaired.
However, despite my interest in cars, I used to think that motor insurance was restricted to merely the vehicles that we ourselves drove. However, in these in the world of today, when even household pets are not safe from the clutches of insurance, why should other people's cars be neglected either?
I learnt about comprehensive car insurance a few days ago when I was surfing the net looking for some good car insurance quotes. Now, who would think that comprehensive car insurance covered the cars that rammed into ours as well? Apparently, it does. Therefore, if tomorrow, some crazy driver rams his headlights into your taillights; your insurance can take care of the damage done to the offending car as well.
Now isn't that a little hard to gulp down? After all, if it is the other guy's fault, why should my insurance company provide for the damage to his vehicle? But that is the way some comprehensive car insurance packages work. Imagine, if you are a driver with little experience, and you inadvertently ram in to the car ahead of you, and that car has this kind of insurance, you will not have to spend a dime on repairing the damage.
Personally, I am not sure that I would like to cover the damage done to another's vehicle by his own rash or careless driving. However, if I am the rash or careless driver, it would be a big burden off my chest when I am in for major repair work, and my insurance company steps in to pay for it.
The idea is an interesting one. It is not something that would really have occurred to me. Perhaps that is because I am loath to pay for somebody else's recklessness. But then insurance companies want to make more business. The only way to get increasingly growing numbers of customers is to come up with such gimmicky methods that will get people thinking and talking.
If you are hoping to find some comprehensive car insurance for your car, just check out the various offers on the World Wide Web. If the idea of paying for third party cars does not sound appealing to you, try settling for the more ordinary car insurance deals instead.
Third Party Car Insurance
Third party car insurance gives you protection for any claim made against you, your driver (if somebody else was driving) or the registered owner of the vehicle. You must by law (the Road Traffic Act) be covered by a certain level of cover. All policies in the UK providing 'third party cover' or more, will provide greater protection than the law demands. Whether you just have 'third party only'; 'third party fire and theft' or 'comprehensive' you will have this section.
If you are to blame for causing an accident your insurance company will be required to pay all monies that you must pay by law to those victims you have killed or injured, or whose property you have damaged and so on. This includes any legal costs you have to pay to the victims solicitors and any legal costs your own insurers incur looking after your interests. In reality what happens is that your insurance company will deal with the third party claim and you should not have to worry about it.
This whole question of third party insurance becomes increasingly complicated if you are a passenger in your own car and it is being driven by another person. Provided that the driver is allowed to drive it, then it is the other person who is covered by this part of the policy and not you. Your insurance policy will list those who are covered to drive the vehicle, e.g., named drivers, passengers, employer . Thus if you, as the passenger, were to be injured owing to the bad driving of the person driving your car, you are quite within your rights to claim damages from that person. So your policy here would protect the driver, not you. You would end up claiming (and almost certainly winning) damages from the driver on your own third party policy. Don't forget that this works both ways. In the event that the driver were killed or injured whilst driving on your policy then there would be no liability on your insurance company.
Sadly, immaterial of who was driving, you cannot claim for accident damage to your vehicle under this section.
If a thief takes your car and causes an accident (sadly this is an every day occurrence) this section of the policy will protect you, as the vehicle's owner, against any claim for damage or injury caused by the thief. This might seem unfair - after all it was the thief who was to blame, yet it's our no-claims bonus that will be lost. Remember, we are concerned here with the law. The intention is to make sure that we can compensate innocent victims who are injured or suffer property damage caused by a stolen car. Which car thief has the money to pay for that? So it is possible, in fact, for the victim to make a claim on your policy. Claims can be very complicated where a thief causes damage or injury.
