Success will bring us power



With the right use of this power we will find happiness

The idea that power corrupts needs to be re-examined. The truth is that we are more likely to be corrupted when we allow ourselves to be warped and frustrated by defeat instead of by the power inherent in bringing our ambitions to fruition and therefore fulfilling ourselves.

There are three great rules for the successful woman who wishes to be happy: To do justly, love mercy and to walk humbly.

To do justly means to be fair in all business dealings, especially as it relates to money. The key here is to learn to be generous of spirit and to regard all agreements in the spirit as well as the letter.

While success is not the final test of character, our attitudes and behaviours towards our colleagues usually are. To the degree that we are spoken well of, our characters are found to be worthy and strong.

This is extremely important in today's economy with the emphasis being placed on relational marketing instead of the advertising medium we have used in the past. It is word of mouth that will ultimately determine our success in any field.

The second quality, mercy, has to be acquired. The quality of mercy is not a common human condition, at least not yet. What is mercy? It is a feeling of tenderness springing out of a harsh experience, as a flower springs out of a rock. It is an inner sense of gratitude for the scheme of things, finding expression in outward action, and therefore assuring those who exercise it of an abiding happiness. Mercy is generous and charitable. The more we give it, the more that is available for us to receive.

The third quality, humility, seems to be the most difficult to attain. Sometimes in the natural pursuit of success, our triumphs and accomplishments can garner an attitude of arrogance, even if only unconsciously. The key here is that to the degree that we acquire humility we will be happier women for it. Humility can be acquired by resisting the temptation to become arbitrary in our ways in the face of continued success and also in the face of continual defeat to never believe that the battle is lost. Humility is balance; it is being grateful in the good times and being faithful in the lean times.

One emotion that can truly get in our way is jealousy. When we give way to jealousy, or any form of jealousy, we cannot hope to be happy because jealousy is, above all others, the passion that tears the heart.

Humility is essential for happiness. Without humility, regardless of our success, we will be spiritually ill at ease. And in this atmosphere, only discontentment can thrive.
