After a five-year hiatus, No Doubt is back in business! The new wave/ska band that first found fame in the ‘90s recently revealed that they have plans on touring in 2009 and hope their stint on the road will inspire new material for a forthcoming album. While No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani was busy having her second child with rock husband Gavin Rossdale of Bush, the rest of the band began work on their first album since 2001's Rock Steady. Although no dates or locations have been revealed, No Doubt plans on hitting the road in the near future. Stefani said on the group's website: “I think if we go out on tour it will inspire us to write. I need to see the fans out there.” Bassist Tony Kanal echoes her thoughts, saying “I think playing the shows would make the studio time even better.”



Producer Mark “Spike” Stent is reportedly working with the band on their upcoming album; Stent was at the helm for a number of tracks on Rock Steady and also produced Stefani's debut solo album, Love. No Doubt formed in 1987 as a ska band comprised of John Spence, Gwen Stefani and her brother Eric. Inspired by Madness, the band started playing the party-band circuit in their hometown of Anaheim, CA (also the home of Disneyland) and added bassist Tony Kanal, who was born in India but raised in the U.K. and the U.S., to the lineup soon after. In December of that year the band suffered a tragedy when Spence committed suicide, but No Doubt soldiered on with Gwen as the lone vocalist. Guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian Young joined No Doubt, and Interscope signed the band in 1991 after their live performances had the industry buzzing. In 1992 No Doubt's debut album was lost among the grunge records of the era and Interscope backed off from any further releases, this the band self-recorded Beacon Street Collection, a more punk-themed debut. Eric Stefani left shortly after its release (he would later work as an animator for The Simpsons) and in 1994 Interscope restored its faith in No Doubt.

In 1995 the breakup of the seven-year relationship between Gwen and Kanal was chronicled in Tragic Kingdom, which made its way to the Top 10 thanks to the popularity of singles “Spiderweb” and “Just a Girl.” Tragic Kingdom would top the charts by the end of the year and its third single, “Don't Speak,” became No Doubt's most successful single. In 2000 the band released its highly-anticipated sophomore album, The Return of Saturn, which spawned hits “Simple Kind of Life” and “Ex-Girlfriend.” By now Stefani, with her platinum hair and ‘50s pinup-meets-punk goddess image, was beginning to branch out solo. After releasing the Grammy-winning single “Let Me Blow Your Mind” co-starring rapper Eve, Stefani went back in the studio with No Doubt for another album. Led by “Hey Baby,” Rock Steady was released in 2001 and is the band's most recent album. Since then, Gwen has released two solo albums, Love. Angel. Music. Baby. and The Sweet Escape.
