Travelers to the US must carry proper documents and be aware of entry requirements and procedures. Each traveler must fill out a Customs and Border Protection declaration form and provide basic identification information and the complete address of where they will be staying in the US.



Unless otherwise waived, all visitors must possess a valid visa and a passport that is valid. This is not a guarantee for entry into the US. The border agent will request information on the reason of your visit and also ask you how long you plan on staying. Visitors are photographed and fingerprinted before they are allowed to enter.

There are several items that are restricted and cannot be brought into the US. You must declare them in the custom form. Items like fruits, vegetables, plants, and poultry cannot be brought into the US. Items not allowed must be discarded.

There is no limit on the amount of currency that can be brought in and taken out of the country. The customs form must be filled if the amount of currency si over 10,000 dollars. Credit cards are widely accepted and it is preferable to use them. Sometimes credit card companies routinely deny transactions made abroad. Inform them of your overseas travel before you leave. Use the credit card that has the least fees for foreign transactions.

The US medical care is extremely expensive. Socialized care is not available. You must carry medical insurance that can pay any costly medical bills. The emergency phone number in case of a dire emergency is 911. Use it only if you are in a life threatening situation.
