We all can do it all night long, right guys? While it's very appealing to our ego, and tempting to lie about, it is far away from the truth.
The lead author of a comprehensive U.S. sex study, sociologist Edward Laumann from University of Chicago, reported in his study that 31 of women suffer from some form of sexual dysfunction.
I always believed in science, but this shameless attack on machoism is nothing but pure blasphemy. Burn him, burn him! Ah, good old Middle Ages, all problems could be solved so easily. Nowadays we put so much money in scientific research and all we get in return is more problems. :D
Premature ejaculation (PE)
Many studies show slightly to very different percentage of how common is each sexual dysfunction. Nonetheless almost all of them agree that premature ejaculation is by far the most common sexual dysfunction in men (should we add in women as well :D).
A pioneer and a giant in the field of human sexuality, Dr. Alfred Kinsey in his, at that time, controversial report 'Sexual Behavior In Human Male' (1948), based on several thousand interviews he conducted, demonstrated that 75% of men ejaculate within 2 minutes of vaginal penetration in more that half of their sexual encounters.
Less of a men
As you already know, being premature ejaculator is not fun at all. If you ever experienced it you probably know what it means to feel like less of a man. It is unbearably embarrassing. It is more than just embarrassing, it's awfully humiliating.
You've done it all right, flirting, dinner with candles and wine, God knows maybe even went through the 9 circles of hell of meeting her parents, and when the time comes to shamelessly enjoy in the fruits of your effort, you ...
Those 3 dots hopefully don't represent the number of strokes you manage to make before you finish. Heck, even if they represent the number of minutes, it's just too fast.
Is there a solution?
There are many tips and tricks that can help you to last longer during sex, but you need to be careful with them. I wrote several times about this trying to warn people that some exercises can damage their penis.
Doctors usually prescribe anti depressants, and they do work but as soon as you stop taking them PE will return. Other thing you need to have in mind when you're taking antidepressants is that they may cause drowsiness and because of that fact you should avoid driving or any other activity that requires concentration and alertness.
Another common option are anesthetic creams. They will delay ejaculation by desensitizing your penis. This might work but is there any sense in taking away all the pleasure from the act of making love?
The closest thing to real deal that I found is herbal medicine. They usually don't require prescription and some of them you can order online. However be advised, if you have any serious medical condition, consult your doctor before taking any drugs.
To Last Longer In Bed
Part of the problem is that until recently, for the male of the species speed has been essential to our survival. If there's a chance that we were so distracted by the act of having sex that we wouldn't notice the grizzly bear creeping up behind us, we wouldn't have survived. So in our cave man days, speed would have been absolutely paramount.
Modern day men aren't likely to be interrupted during sex to make some predator's dinner. So it's up to us to work out a way to get over our instincts and take the time to make sure both we and our partners enjoy our close time together.
1. Stop stressing about it
It's a proven fact that what we think about usually comes to pass. If you keep stressing over the idea that you're only going to last a few seconds or minutes in bed, chances are that's what will happen. Learn to relax more. Chill out. Put on some calm, relaxing music in the background rather than fast paced stuff you normally listen to. Or treat yourself to a relaxation CD and listen to that for a while before you go to bed with your partner.
2. Remember to breathe
Sounds a bit daft. After all, if you're not breathing you're not going to be much use in bed either. But what this really means is breathe deeply and gently. When we panic, our breath gets shorter. We take faster, shallower breaths. Take nice, slow, deep breaths and you'll naturally start to relax more.
3. Slow down!
You don't need to break the world speed record every time you jump into bed. Take the time to slow down and notice what's going on around you. Notice how your partner reacts when you do various things. Take the time to feel how their skin feels. Explore their body - not just the areas you always head for but their whole body. Even toes and fingers can be sensual. Why not take a nice, long, relaxing bath together where the pressure isn't just on the sex act?
4. Don't beat yourself up
We men have a tendency to think we need to be 100% perfect in everything we do. And we then indulge in lots of nasty inner self-talk when we don't live up to that perfection. You've done it - talked to yourself in a way that you wouldn't tolerate from anyone else. When you catch yourself doing this, throw that voice out. You've created it, you can stop it. Or change the voice (it's in your own head, created by you, remember) to something different. Let Mickey Mouse tell you off - you'll laugh rather than take it personally and be wounded for your next outing.
5. Practice makes perfect
You didn't learn to walk or ride a bike or drive a car the first time out. Why should it be any different when you take your partner to bed? Talk things over with them, support each other and practice. After all, it's not like it's an exam at school that you have to pass!
