First, let's spend a little time discussing what exactly is a widget. A widget is a mini web application where webmasters can add to their websites. This is usually done by copying and pasting some simple HTML or Javascript code on to the existing web pages. The term social widget refers to widgets that are meant specifically for social websites. Social websites like MySpace.com or Facebook.com allow their members to customize their profile pages. That means the members can add any social widgets to their profile page.
There are many types of different social widgets. They range from puzzles, simple games, fancy clocks, to useful tools such as calendars, password generators and so on. So depending on how you want your social web pages to look, you are free to choose any social widget that is available for download. Usually, social widgets are freely available at no cost. And why is that? If you are an Internet marketer, perhaps you already know the reasons.
Social widgets are developed for others to use on their websites or web pages. As these web pages become more and more popular, especially on social websites where there is a general tendency for members to add new friends, the widget will spread virally. This allows the Internet marketer to get free exposure at no cost. It is not uncommon to see widgets that link back to the developer's website. A popular social widget can potentially be downloaded and used by millions on web users. So imagine the amount of free traffic that the developer will receive!
But that can only happen if a social widget is extremely popular, and online visitors are willing to spread the word. How can that be achieved? For a start, new widgets should be promoted as much as possible to gain traction. For example, a developer can list a new widget in widget directories. These directories function very much like a search engine, and allows users to search for the widgets that they want. The more places that the widget is listed in, the better the chance of someone downloading the widget, and actually installs and uses it.
In addition, the widget must also be setup to spread itself virally. Let's say you downloaded a quiz widget that allows you to quiz your friends. When your friends receive your quiz requests, they in turn must download the widget before they can see the quiz. If they like the widget, they will continue to spread the widget to their own network of friends. This is, in essence, how widgets can spread virally.
So if you are into Internet marketing, you probably realize by now how powerful social widgets can be. With millions and millions of members on social networking sites, the potential is huge. A wildly successful widget can easily bring in thousands of targeted visitors a day. How you monetize the traffic, is completely up to you. After all, the traffic will keep coming without you having to spend a single dime.
To Use Social Marketing
You make your way out into the social networking communities but what are they and what are you suppose to do? When joining, you think that everybody comes to see your profile and will join your opportunity immediately. Not!, and I will tell you why and show you what to do about it. I mean you had the new store and people were just thrilled to come in when you first opened, but did they stay? I sincerely doubt it, because there are things that you need to do to keep them coming.
I want to break down the techniques in which you use to not only draw potential buyers or partners to your social networking profile, but also keep them coming back and interested in your business opportunity or products.
First and foremost, do not use a cut-throat tactic to seduce customers on-line. They will definitely pick up on your cunning tactics in Internet marketing, but it will not work and ultimately be the demise of your business.
Let's get down to it. You find the perfect social network and are ready to market yourself. That is exactly it, market yourself! Setting up your profile is extremely important and efficient in social marketing. It is the very first step after opening a new account. Make sure that you upload a picture or a company logo in your avatar, because it is important to expose your presence. I highly recommend that you use a picture of yourself, but it is up to you.
Then you are going to want to make more friends in your quest to master Internet marketing. Now you wouldn't walk up to someone and throw them a business card, would you? I didn't think so. That is the same as going from profile to profile with spam. Spam is defined as any text that is unwanted and more so that of an advertisement of an opportunity that is consecutively distributed to numerous people. You are going to want to get known by marketing yourself! Yes, yourself! Not your opportunity. That is the secret!
I recommend going through the site and get familiar with other members. Say hello and introduce yourself. If they are remotely interested in you (and most likely they wouldn't be if you didn't upload a picture earlier) they will visit your profile. When they arrive at your profile, they will see that you have everything about you and your business opportunity. That is like introducing yourself and handing them a business card per say.
Once you make new friends, open a group about your business. Offer to send samples. When you comment on the pages, do not, I repeat, do not advertise your business. In some social networking sites, you may even get banned for spamming. Beware that they can see your private messages as they can do that in the admin area. Plain and simple, Internet marketing guru's market them self, not their business.
There you have - new friends and your site is really catching up the flame. Most sites are free but some have monthly fee. Then there are some where you can earn revenue through participation and/or ad generated revenue, all the while you are marketing yourself.
There are places where you can even give presentations. This is a major plus for the business, because you have already made a name for yourself by marketing your presence within the community. If your main focus is to market yourself first people will gain confidence in you. Then they are more apt to join your opportunity or buy from your store. Due to the newly built trust they have in you.
Trust is hard earned in Internet marketing. Social networking can be a great way to market your business and then again, it can be the opposite. Doing it right, I will assure you, can be a great way to earn money in the comfort of your own home. They estimate that one in every two homes will earn their sole income from home, by the year 2010. There is no better time to learn to become a successful Internet marketer, then now. Internet marketing through social networking is taking the world by storm.
