Today Tomorrow And Yesterday

    View:
If you thought that the Beatles would never see a youthful event after the ‘70s, think again. Recently announced as this year's Coachella Music Festival event headliner is none other than the Beatles man himself, Paul McCartney. The group's organizers, no doubt led by some of the Beatles biggest fans, is usually recognized for their abnormally typical indie and edgy lineup, as previous announcements have revealed that The Killers, The Cure and more will also take places on the main stages during its three day event. But none could have guessed that McCartney, the man who as of recently has been surrounded more by the paparazzi and British presses due more to his romantic life rather than his musical one, to become the 2009 headliner. “I have heard that Coachella is one of the greatest festivals in the world,” the 66 year old said in a statement. “I'm really excited to get out there and rock!” Though there are already skeptics, Coachella tickets are still going to be doing well on http://www.stubhub.com/coachella-music-festival-tickets !

One of the biggest and perhaps most influential critics to appear in regards to this old school rock act's presence on Coachella's notably recognized cutting age stage is The Los Angeles Times. The articles regarding the musical celebration viewed the musician's appointment as perhaps the over 140,000 fans that participate each year will rethink their seat choice due to the mature poppers presence. “What remains to be seen is whether the choice will cost the festival credibility with its core clientele – young fans who are more likely to listen to the White Stripes than the “White Album” and who are far more familiar with Rage Against the Machine than “Band on the Run.” McCartney will undoubtedly not ruin the event, as he is just one of 120 acts to grace the stages of this legendary festival. Most confident remains the event's organizer, Paul Tollett, who said to the Times, “This is a Beatle. That's huge.” And so the company and the fans of years past Coachella will just have to ‘let it be.'

This won't be the first time that such a prominent none-Coachella act graces the stage at the annual Indio Valley event; Madonna, Willie Nelson, Pink Floyd alum Roger Waters and Prince are all Coachella veterans who have easily passed the indie fan collection. “If they can pull off Madonna at Coachella, they can do anything,” Pollstar's editor in chief Gary Bongiovanni said. “Coachella is the king. I can see McCartney wanting to play Coachella because it gives him the chance to reach a different audience.” It's no doubt that the legacy of the Beatles brings enough familiarity with even the youngest of Coachella patrons to catch a few hoots while on stage. His repertoire on the 17th will probably focus more on his funky and fresh material (think “Helter Skelter” and “Live and Let Die”) rather than the adult contemporary pop that got him famous. Still, this act isn't going to disappoint, whatever crowd may be on the forefront.
Today Tomorrow And Yesterday
The holiday, promotion, and exciting project are just the means - vehicles to get us the good feelings, like a finger pointing to the moon. However, if we focus too intently on the finger, we may end up taking the finger to be the moon, missing out on the beautiful sights of Heaven altogether.

Here's an anecdote: Two brothers decided to come on This Side. When asked why they wanted so much to visit Earth, both replied that they simply wanted to feel good. They had heard of many wonderful things happening down there.

Upon arriving, the elder brother discovered that money could buy him things, permitting him to feel good. So he decided to amass a fortune, thinking that the more money he had, the more he'd be able to feel good. Now there is nothing wrong in having money, but for him, money became the finger pointing to the moon. He had forgotten about the moon and the beautiful sights of Heaven. His obsession was so intense that he felt anxious, aggressive, and suspicious whenever he felt threatened by the loss of his money.

The beautiful sights of Heaven were replaced by the little finger that made him feel bad. He had mistaken the finger to be the moon.

Meanwhile, the younger brother discovered the sea, sex, and sun; he felt good lying all day on the beach and making whoopee at night. He took it easy. He simply went fishing whenever he was hungry.

Now, initially these two men wanted to feel good, but did not take the same vehicles to reach their objectives.

They later compared notes on the Other Side. The one obsessed by money, who had thought that money would bring him all the goodies, failed miserably to attain his objective on Earth. He depended too heavily on one source - money.

His younger brother scored remarkably well; he felt good most of the time while on This Side, though he had little money. He had no worries, was carefree, and appreciated what he had. He really was in paradise!

Now, what do we make out of it?

Of course, we naturally want to feel good. But our desires are often crushed by You want / You can't / What's going to happen? / You're going to lose! - the Gang of Four.

Whenever you have negative feelings like heaviness, anxiety, anger, frustration, or discouragement, it's a sure sign that this Gang of Four is beating you up. How can you lessen the pain? By taking a DDD pill!

What's that?

DDD stands for Desireless Diet Day, which stops our negative emotions and puts us in a positive thinking mode.

It means simply cutting down on desires you can't fulfil immediately: like wanting someone to call you, hoping to be invited to next week's party, hoping your client will sign a contract today, wanting your boss to be nice... The list can be long!

Just focus on what you have now, and think about what you can do with what you have now! If you want to call someone now – provided you have a telephone, you can! You want to have a coffee, take a shower, work on your computer – if those things are available, you can! This way, you'll never be attacked by the Gang of Four. You'll feel good each time because you're focusing on what you have - not on what you'd like to have.

But you may ask: does this mean cutting all desires? Not at all! Just transform your desires into strategies. If you desire a more rewarding job, spend time now creating job options, then start your action plan and send out your CVs. You're back to You want / You can DDD mode.

You can feel good all day long and control a situation by focusing on the things you have and on what you can do with what you have. Just make a list of what you have. Eyes, legs, tongue, Google, friends, job, driver's license... This list can be a mile long!!!

You have legs, take a walk. Some can't. You have eyes, go watch something you like. Whichever vehicles you choose – and you can have many vehicles, and change them – whether you're rich or poor, as long as you feel good each day, you score points.

And to feel good depends on our reactions to people, on our reactions to situations. What is important is how we choose to react. If we keep an inner smile all day long, we will score 7, 8, or 9 points out of 10, and be on our way to attaining our real objective in life – that is feeling good today, tomorrow... and forever.
