Trading In Stock Exchange

What is the Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX?)

The SGX is Asia-Pacific's first demutualised and integrated securities and derivatives exchange. The SGX was inaugurated on 1 December 1999, following the merger of two established and well-respected financial institutions - the Stock Exchange of Singapore (SES) and the Singapore International Monetary Exchange (SIMEX).

On 23 November 2000, SGX became the first exchange in Asia-Pacific to be listed via a public offer and a private placement. Listed on our own bourse, the SGX stock is a component of benchmark indices such as the MSCI Singapore Free Index and the Straits Times Index.

Home to Singapore's leading listed companies, SGX is also at the forefront of exchanges globally in attracting international issuers and is rapidly emerging as Asia's offshore risk management centre for international derivatives.

Which is making some Singapore companies look very attractive for overseas investments, which gives them a positive outlook for the future.

Trading In Stock Exchange
There are many options when it comes to investing your money for profit, real estate, gold, joint ventures, stocks and bonds to name a few. Some avoid investing in stocks feeling they don't know enough to get started plus it all seems very complicated. By reading this article your mind hopefully will be put at ease.

For of all, let's discuss exactly what stock is. Companies can decide to sell shares of their business or corporation. This is beneficial to them, because they can reinvest your money in their business, helping them grow and strive for financial success. Thus, it's also beneficial to you as a share holder. As their business improves, the cost of shares increases, resulting in profit from your initial investment. Another aspect is the right to vote on corporate decisions.

However, there is a certain level of risk involved with trading stock. If the company doesn't progress, or even declines, then you may lose money. By understanding basic trends of the market, as well as simple stock trading strategy, you can minimize your risk. For example, if you buy shares when the economy is in a recession, there's nowhere for prices to go but up! Thus, that would be a good time to invest if you have the money. Also, it's beneficial to research the companies you're interested in. See what their plans for the future are, how they manage their finances, and what they've accomplished recently. You can often request information to be sent directly from them, such as spending reports or budgets, but it's also a good idea to look at outside sources that remain objective.

There are software programs available, stock trading systems, which analyze the marketplace and provide you with recommendations on which stocks to buy, sell or hold. While the performance of individual stocks is unpredictable on a day to day basis these programs look at performance over long periods of time and are quite effective at accurately predicting both short and long term trends.

Another tool worth using is diversification. This simply means spreading your investment over several stocks rather than investing all your money in one company. If one stock does poorly, better performance by another company tends to offset your loss. It's also more enjoyable to track performance of a number of companies instead of just one, if you like to of that sort of thing. So instead of buying 500 shares of XYZ stock consider purchasing 100 share in each of five different companies.

To get started, you have several options. You can trade stocks online, through an independent service. You can also open an online account with a brokerage firm. These firms will purchase your stocks for you, depending on what specifications you've given them. If you're not interested on doing it online, you can even do it over the phone, or meet with somebody in person. This is another research project for you though, as you'll want to make sure you get a reliable firm that offers outstanding customer service.

Once you've actually invested the money, you can choose how involved you are with your investments. Some people don't watch them, so they can't worry about fluctuations. You can specify certain alerts with your firms, where they'll contact you if something significant happens with your investments. Other people follow the companies they invest in on a daily basis. As you watch and read about the stocks, you'll learn more about how process works. Really, the involvement level is up to you though.

Have you heard the expression "Never fall in love with a stock"? Sometimes it can be very difficult to sell a stock, particularly if it's done very well in the past. You can almost feel a sense of loyalty to that stock. Yet there will be times when selling a particular stock is the best thing to do. Companies don't always grow year after year, company management changes, sometimes for the worst, or the demand for that companies product simple begins to disappear, In cases like these it's best to sell before your shares begin to lose value. By studying the market over time you'll gain a degree of expertise that will serve you well as time goes on. The only thing constant about the market is change so enjoy the ride, it can be fascinating and profitable!
