Train A Yorkshire Terrier

    View:
Yorkshire Terrier puppies, or just Yorkies as this breed of small dogs is known, are very playful dogs that have a very distinct colored coat, generally colored blue and tan. Yorkie puppies are pretty small in size and won't weigh much either. And according to the American Kennel Club the Yorkshire Terrier puppy is the second most sought after dog breed in the U.S., being less popular only to Labrador Retrievers.

Normally, fully grown Yorkshire Terriers won't grow to more than six to seven inches in height and also won't weigh more than seven pounds. Though even when they are puppies, they will still sport a long as well as fine and silky coat. Yorkshire Terrier puppies are highly active, though not very good at learning. However, they are energetic as well as loyal and brave, and in addition, they are not well suited for being guard dogs, though they are better at being watch dogs and the average Yorkie puppies can be expected to live up to a ripe old age of between twelve and fifteen years.

In appearance, the Yorkie puppy is rather compact and also athletically built which allows this breed to remain active throughout its life and it usually holds both tail and head high, while showing a great deal of confidence as well. In their gait, Yorkshire Terrier puppies are generally free as well as jaunty and their stance is upright while it is not frail or even fragile as you may have expected when thinking about its toy size.

Yorkie puppies don't have an undercoat though they do have long hair which they do not shed much and in fact, their hair are a bit like those of humans and thus will grow non-stop without falling off except when brushed or when the hair break up. Usually, their coat is of black as well as tan color and even their black hair can mix with the tan color, which is known to stop once the puppy has fully matured.

Before you are able to choose the right puppy from a litter ofYorkshire Terrier puppies you must know of certain qualities that can help you distinguish the better puppies from the less than satisfactory ones. Thus, you need to ensure that the coat color is right and that the coat is of good quality in terms of its texture. The hair should be glossy while also being fine as well as silky.

However, not all good Yorkie puppies show these traits and some will show rather too fine and woolly coats, which makes their appearance a bit different as compared to the better Yorkshire Terrier puppies.

Nevertheless, a sure sign that your Yorkie puppy is a suitable one is when you notice that their lips, nose and also paw-pads, eye-rims and nails have a dark pigmentation.

You also need to look for Yorkshire Terrier puppies that have absolutely straight hair, which will need a lot of maintenance if you want to keep the hair clean as well as looking beautiful.
Train A Yorkshire Terrier
There are many aspects that you need to consider before choosing to do Yorkshire Terrier breeding for yourself. It is important that you carefully consider what can happen before you choose this option since there are many things that can and do go wrong when breeding. First you should consider your Yorkshire Terrier. Do you know of specific faults they can have, do you know if they meet breed standards and do you know what can be transmitted through genes to the offspring?

In order to reduce the infections transferred during breeding it is necessary to make sure both the male and female have bacteria cultures and brucellosis tests done. You should have a veterinarian thoroughly check the dogs before breeding to make sure they don't have conditions that can be passed on to the litter such as luxating patella's, cardiomyopathy or hypothyroidism.

Even if you have a male and female that are both healthy and good choices for breeding it is important that you educate yourself about possible hereditary faults. Carefully research the family lineage on both sides and make sure you know what you can do to reduce hereditary conditions.

Before Yorkshire Terrier breeding another thing you should consider is what can go wrong during the gestation period. There is always the chance that before, during and after whelping the mother dog can die. Just a few of the more common complications include uterine inertia, prolapsed uterus, eclampsia, metritis or mastitis. Make sure you have the time and ability in advance to take on Yorkshire Terrier breeding.

It is also important to consider the cost. C-sections may need to be required for small breed dogs such as Yorkshire Terriers and you need to make sure you have enough money saved up should this be necessary. It is also important that you know the signs of any troubles that can occur during breeding and what steps you should take in order to resolve the problem.

When it comes to Yorkshire Terrier breeding the last thing you need to consider is the raising of the puppies. Before you can raise the puppies it is important that you educate yourself about conditions such as fading puppies, toxic milk, septicemia, primary atelectasis, herpes virus, cleft palates and hypoglycemia. There is always the risk of birth defects and some can be serious enough that the puppy has to be put down.

When a puppy is born there is always the chance that a birth defect may be present and if it is serious enough the puppy may have to be put down. If necessary would you be able to do this? While you may be able to do this you should also be prepared for the complications it will cause the mother. Can you take several days off work on short notice in case your are required to raise the litter for a while should something happen to the mother? If necessary would you be comfortable with tube feeding or bottle-feeding? Again you need to carefully consider all the costs involved.

Just a few of the things you may have to pay for include vaccinations, looking for a home for the puppies, paying vet bills and raising the puppies for several years or their entire life if you are unable to find a home for them.
