The area now known as Costa Blanca was designated as such in the 1950s by the European airlines BEA, British European Airways. The more than 200 kilometer, or almost 125 miles, of white sandy beaches were the central focus of a growing tourism industry in the area when the BEA began flying between Valencia and London. Now, the Costa Blanca is one of the most heavily traveled tourist attractions in Europe.

Benidorm is an area of the Costa Blanca located 45 kilometers, or almost 28 miles northeast of the Alicante Airport. Benidorm is one of the most popular areas of the Costa Blanca and is a perfect holiday destination. The city is surrounded by mountains that protect it from any northern winds, creating a mild winter climate. The summers are hot hot hot, in both temperature and tourism. Besides the fantastic natural sights of beautiful beaches and mountains, there are many places to go both during the day and long into the night.

Once you arrive at the Alicante Airport, there are many choices for transportation to Benidorm. There are buses with several trips between the city and the airport, as well as a railway. There are also more than 20 rental car agencies located in Alicante's Airport that service Benidorm travelers.

The amount of transportation you will require when you get to Benidorm should play a large part in the decision you make for the transportation you choose from the airport. If you plan to travel to many of the surrounding cities, a rental car will be a good idea. If you simply need to get to a hotel or apartment rental, grab a bus, train or taxi. Public transportation in Benidorm is very convenient.

Benidorm has a multitude of interesting attractions for every kind of visitor to the area. There are literally thousands of places to go, whether to eat, dance, swim, or shop. There are several water and theme parks in Benidorm, from the amazing Aqualandia, Europe's largest water slide park, to the Terra Mitica park, with its interesting blend of history and roller coasters.

There are three public beaches available in Benidorm. The Playa de Poniente is the most popular and crowd attracting beach. The Playa de Levante is a topless beach, that attracts a smaller number of typically lower keyed younger visitors. The Playa Mai Pas is the third beach in the region and is smaller than Levante or Poniente but still attracts many families.

There is also an opportunity to ride the Lemon Express up the coast of Spain. The rail trip is about 48 kilometers, or 30 miles long and includes many beautiful views of both the beach and countryside.
