Jaundice is a symptom of hepatitis, jaundice causes your skin and your eyes appear yellow. The yellow color of the skin and eyes are caused by an excess amount of bilirubin. Bilirubin is a yellow chemical in hemoglobin which builds up in the body when the liver cannot handle the blood cells as they break down, body and your skin may look yellow.
Jaundice is a disease caused due to vitiation of the pitta dosha. It is called as kamala. When there is an excessive circulation of the bile pigments in the blood, then this disease is caused. Pitta dosha controls the bile pigments.
Jaundice occurs as a result of the breakdown of extra red blood cells associated with the transition form your fetus receiving oxygen from your placenta to supplying her/his own oxygen. Bilirubin is a by-product of this breakdown process, and when it is reabsorbed and circulates it tints the skin and eyes yellow.
Treatment
1.Panchakarma has been proven to be good help. Rasayana therapies after panchakarma should include pippali. Apart from these Pippalyadi choornam, pippali vardhamana yogam, pippalichitraka gritham, pippali gritham, chitraka gritham, rohitha gritham and maharohita gritham can be used with good efficacy.
2.All parts of the chicory plant are useful in the treatment of liver ailments. The flowers, seeds and roots are the most often used. The juice of the chicory can help in the treatment of sluggishness of the liver, obstruction of the flow of bile and the enlargement of the spleen; all of which are associated with jaundice. Chicory can also promote the healthy secretion of the bile.
3.If the cause is gall stones, then removal of the stones will immediately relive the person of this problem. Similarly if the person has been consuming alcohol in excess this could also be the cause which could result in cirrhosis of the liver. The person should maintain a non fatty diet for a while and the give the liver a chance to recoup from the onslaught of the disease.
4.Picrorrhiza is one of the two best Ayurvedic remedies for jaundice. It is known as kutki in Ayurveda. Powder of this herb is mixed with hot water and taken twice a day.
5.Sunlight will also help break down the bilirubin. So effective infant jaundice treatment is to undress your baby and, while shading her eyes, give her a sun bath in the early morning or late afternoon sun for five minutes.
