Treatments For Skin Cancer

    View:
Skin cancer treatment is given to a patient to destroy and remove a cancer and leave as small and unnoticeable scar as possible. The size and location of the skin cancer, patients medical history, patients health, patient's age and the risk of scarring will help to determine the best form of skin cancer treatment for the patient. Skin cancer treatment is usually a form of surgery, radiation therapy or chemotherapy. The doctor may even suggest a combination of these methods to eradicate the skin cancer from the patient.

Fruits and Vegetables

You should eat a lot of fresh organic fruits and vegetables. Also drink a lot of water. Any amount of dehydration in the body can prove harmful, if you are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments. This can eventually result in serious side effects such as dry itchy skin, acne, rashes and peeling.

Surgical Treatment: All the types described above can be treated by means of excision and removal of the tumor. Surgical removal results in a better than 90 percent cure rate for nonpigmented tumors (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and Bowen disease). Alternative methods for destroying the cancer include using liquid -nitrogen freezing (cryosurgery) or scraping with a curette and burning the tissue with electric cautery (electro desiccation and curettage).

Radiation therapy

This is a therapy that emits X-rays in order to exterminate cancer cells and also to shrink tumors. The therapy is conducted with the help of a radiation machine. It can be applied to any part of the body successfully to get good results

Electro-chemotherapy

This therapy uses a combination of chemotherapy as well as electrical pulses in order to treat cancer.

Skin cancer is one of those diseases that is not only harmful to your health but is also not very good cosmetically. There are several treatments out there that are able to remove the cancerous lesions while still keeping your skin cosmetically appealing. However, in more serious cases, keeping healthy is more important than looking good. If you suspect you may have contacted this disease, do consult your doctors immediately to seek medical advice on the proper skin cancer treatment available to treat and control the disease.

Skin cancer can be deadly, but nearly all skin cancer can be treated if it is detected and diagnosed early, however skin cancer can recur, so it is important that you examine your skin regularly for any changes and see your doctor for a check-up every six to 12 months.

Cryosurgery is gaining in popularity with medical professionals and patients. One of the major advantages to the procedure is it is less invasive than more established approaches. It typically involves only a topical treatment or small incision in the area in question. This reduces trauma to the body and makes recovery much quicker and less painful. Sometimes, it can be done with only a local anesthesia. It can also be repeated frequently and used in combination with other treatment strategies. As you might imagine, this less invasive approach also reduces the overall cost of treatment.

Avoid exposure to UV rays: This is the best protection against skin cancer. If you can time your outdoor activity during those periods when the UV rays are less intense, you are automatically protected against UV rays. Thus getting out either early in the mornings of later in the evenings is the best.
Treatments For Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is one of the most prevalent forms of cancer in the world. It strikes any age group, and can be deadly if not treated directly. To that end, it's important to regularly perform self-examinations to ensure that you spot any problems early. In this article, we'll discuss exactly what you need to do to properly examine yourself for skin cancer.

While examining yourself for skin cancer can be scary, it is a necessary procedure to perform considering that a full 1 in 5 people can be expected to contract some form of skin cancer throughout their lifetime. Doctors recommend that you check yourself for skin cancer monthly to ensure that you spot any problems early on. To check yourself for skin cancer, you need to have a few mirrors so that you can accurately see all parts of your body. The entire surface area of the body needs to be checked for skin cancer, as it can appear anywhere. First, examine your head and your face, as well as your scalp, in the mirror. Gradually work your way down your body, ensuring that you're checking everywhere - commonly missed spots include underneath the breasts, and parts of the back and buttocks. Also be sure to check the genital areas as well as every part of the feet, including the webbing between toes.

The main thing to look for when performing a self-examination for skin cancer is the appearance of irregular moles. Malformed moles can result in malignant melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. If you're looking on your body and you find that a mole is asymmetrical, with one side of the mole appearing different than the other side, you may want to consult a doctor. Also, most moles complete their growth before age twenty. If a mole on your body begins growing past age twenty, you should also speak to a doctor. Check for irregularities on the borders of the mole; they should be well-defined and should be uniform in growth. Also, moles that change color to a dark black, red, or even white represent a significant risk for a problem. Since early diagnosis is the key to surviving skin cancer, if you spot anything that you feel might be a problem, discuss it with your doctor immediately. Your health is your responsibility, and a little caution can result in catching the problem early enough to stop it.
