Have you ever thought about becoming a commercial truck driver?, odds are you may have but I bet you never stopped to think about all the paperwork involved, everything from a log book to fuel permits and truck permits for every state or country you travel thru to increasing paperwork requirements from insurance companies and even from the companies you haul freight.



You will have to complete paperwork for fuel permits, overweight permits, hazmat permits, licensing for commercial trucking, along with insurance. As a trucker that gets paid for driving and not doing paperwork I have come up with some simple tips that any commercial trucker can use to save time and reduce the amount of time spent doing paperwork for things like truck permits so you can driving instead of pushing paperwork.

The simplest time saving tip is to remember the old grade school advice: KISS - keep it simple stupid. You should start with a storage box and divide all the paperwork up into categories for things like fuel, insurance, state papers, truck permits, bingo stamps, etc. Other things to keep in the storage box are pens, erasers, pencils, staples, stapler, along with some petty cash for emergency needs.

With the advent of modern technology you can save lots of time by using the internet to get most of your paperwork done for things like truck permits and fuel permits, many commercial truck stops have internet access and even many cell phones can surf the net now so you should try to complete as much paperwork online and possible.

You should already be doing much of your paperwork online for things like truck permits and have all your paperwork in order so the next tip is thinking ahead and start to develop a habit of pre-planing and complete as much paperwork as possible before you even need it.

In closing I would like to ask that if you are like me and sick of the increasing burden of regulations and paperwork being placed on commercial truck drivers that you take a few minutes of your time and call or write your Senator and Congressman and let them know that it needs to stop. As one person you are not going to stop it but if we all get involved maybe we can actually make a difference.
