Ok, so maybe you know about Twitter and use it on a regular basis as I do, but it seems that on a daily basis I am discovering some new little nuance, a new tool, or something regarding Twitter that I had no idea existed. While I will start at the basics I plan to point out some things that should be useful to anyone interested in Tweeting.



What started me going down this path of writing about Twitter was a conversation that I had yesterday with an associate that is just starting to dive into Social Media and Online Marketing as a means of boosting her business. While she had heard the term Twitter, she had no idea what Twitter is, why it was important to her, etc, etc.

Needless to say I felt that it was something that I would take a little time to explain and more importantly give some insights into why it is so important to your business.

While Twitter is purely a means of socializing for a large number of people, it is also a very powerful marketing tool for the growth of your business. While that is most applicable to Network Marketing and Web (Internet) based businesses, any conventional business can tap into the power of Tweeting on a daily basis.

For years I have spent large portions of my time networking at all of the Networking events available to me in my area or within a reasonable driving distance. Why? For one simple reason human nature is such that we are more likely to buy from someone that we know, trust and have a relationship with. Beyond the many life long friendships I have made, Networking has been a key component to my success in my professional life as well.

Now with the advent of Twitter which is described as being a social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users' updates (tweets). Every time you send out a tweet, all your followers will see it. Unlike blogs, Twitter is a real time broadcasting medium, so your followers will see your update within seconds.

As you may have guessed Twitter is many things to many people but what do not realize is that Twiiter can be an incredibly powerful marketing, relationship and community building tool. Through Twitter you have the ability to develop your brand, build relationships and serves as a promotional medium that has a unique ability to go viral.

Twitter asks one simple question, “What are you doing?” and allows you to send a small updates (140 characters) to your followers. While the concept is so very simple that is one of the primary reasons it has caught on so quickly. Do to the 140 character limitation Twitter has been labeled “micro blogging”.

If that is not enough for you, some additional benefits of Twitter is that you can send and receive updates (also called tweets) via your browser, email , instant messaging clients and SMS so you can keep in touch no matter where you are. If you ever thought that simply having a cell phone and being able to send text messages was not enough for you, you can now stay connected to all of your Internet connections via a simple tweet.

Again, I will stress that as many of you know Network Marketing, Multi-Level Marketing (MLM), Direct Sales, Relationship Marketing or however you choose to refer to your business is all about relationships. To that end Twitter is a very powerful tool that brings a new dynamic to your business that you really do not want to miss out on.

As you can imagine a tool this powerful has brought out the creativity in a lot of programmers around the world and as such there are a host of new tools to help you manage relationship building through Twitter. I will list just a few below that I use and would highly recommend.

Tweet Later - Schedule tweets and keep your Twitter stream ticking over with new tweets even when you're not in front of your computer. Publish tweets when your international followers are online and you're asleep….much more.

Tweet Deck - TweetDeck enables users to split their main feed (All Tweets) into topic or group specific columns allowing a broader overview of tweets. The default columns can contain All Tweets from your timeline, @replies directed to you and direct messages. The GROUP, SEARCH and REPLIES buttons then allow the user to make up additional columns populated from the live tweet information.
