Ukraine is a unitary state situated in the south of Central Europe. It has twenty four regions, Crimea ? an autonomous republic and 2 urban districts that are treated separately: Kiev that is the metropolis and Sevastopol. Ukraine became a semi-presidential republic only several years ago. That is the result of an orange revolution of 2004. The system of government in the country has been modified with the power redistributed between different branches of power. Ukraine has a common border with 10 countries. These countries are Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Hungary, Moldova and Slovakia. The country is in the main treeless plain with mountains in the Crimea and low Carpathian Mountains. River Dnieper flows through the imaginary center of Ukraine and separate it into two nearly identical parts. There is a huge amount of hydroelectric power plants are situated on river Dnieper. Ukraine has a quite mild climate, so the winters are not very cold here but a lot of rivers and lakes are commonly covered by ice. The rain is often observed in summertime usually but in general, summers are quite hot.



Thanks to favorable terms, Ukraine is famous for its quality soils and well developed agriculture. Ukraine is considered to be one of the largest exporters of sugar. In general, the country develops a lot of produce: maize, corn, vegetables, fruit, etc. Kiev is one of the oldest cities in Europe. It was established approximately in the 5th century and has long and interesting history. All the Slavic civilizations have come from this city. It was established as a little trade settlement but it has developed into the fabulous modern megapolis. After it was occupied by Mongols in the 13th century and completely destroyed, it lost its eminence for a long period. Great impact on the growth was caused by the foundation of the Soviet Union. The Ukrainian Soviet Republic helped Kiev to regain prominence. In 2001 here lived 2,611,300 people in Kiev (census data). Females constituted 53 percents and males 47 percents. Looking from the point of view of nationalities, the capital of Ukraine is very diverse. There are about 130 ethnic groups living in Kiev. The government of the Soviet Union developed the building of the real estate in Kiev that became the result of rapidly increasing population. Among blue and grey blocks of flats created modern downtown buildings. During several last years Kiev has gained the status of full-fledged European city with a number of expensive restraints and luxury hotels.

Statistics says that the average emolument in Kiev rose significantly for last six years. That means the economics of Ukraine becomes more and more constant and strong. Professional economical forecasters say that Ukraine will become a participant of WTO in a very short period.
