One of the oldest marketing techniques, the three foot rule is also one of the most talked about methods of marketing a home based business that there. Incase you do not know it pretty much goes like this: you talk to anyone who comes within three feet of you about your business.
It does not matter if you're at the grocery store, in a restaurant, on an elevator everyone you come in contact with needs an invitation to hear about your home based business.
The three foot rule is often talked about but I doubt many people actually do. Seriously, would you really join a business if someone approached you at the checkout aisle and started asking you if you wanted to change your life? Probably not. Also, if the three foot rule were widely used then I would assume that someone, somewhere at some time would have approached me and it's never happened.
The truth behind the idea is if you talk to enough people surely some of them will be interested in what you're doing and sign up. However, it rarely works out that way when approaching total strangers and while you're spending all your time talking to strangers and most likely embarrassing yourself you'll probably just get discouraged and quit.
As you might guess, I am not a big fan of the three foot rule and have never personally used it. So how do I get tons of people to talk to about my home business? I advertise on the internet for free! No I don't spend money on pay per click (that can really eat away at your budget if you're not careful!) or buy huge lists of leads to dump into an auto responder (been there done that too).
I get targeted traffic to my website every single day by doing a few simple things like marketing on forums, blogging, and free classified sites like Craigslist or Backpage. I also use social networking and article marketing sites and guess what? People are actually calling me instead of me calling them, business has never been easier!
So get into the 21st century and ditch the 3 foot rule! I know that once you see just how great internet marketing is you'll never bug another person in the produce section again!
