Extended Used Car Warranty
Ken Charnley
The last thing a new car buyer wants to think about is the necessity for an extended car warranty for their new vehicle. Be that as it may, it is an option which is always presented and one which is becoming more and more popular in the consumer market. Likewise, it is an option which needs to be carefully considered before leaving the showroom.
Extended car warranties are designed to cover components of the vehicle bumper to bumper for the additionally purchased time. This can typically be up to several years and up to 100,000 miles. The average cost for the extended warranty is around $1,500. This figure may vary greatly depending on the warranty offered by your dealership.
As with anything, extended warranties are designed to make a profit for the manufacturer and dealer. That being said most extended warranties offer the car buyer the opportunity to forego some of the possible added repair costs associated with the vehicle. These expenses include parts and labor for anything covered under warranty.
Granted, repairs that relate to normal wear and tear on the vehicle such as oil changes and tires are not covered and require regularly scheduled maintenance, but once the policy is in place, major repairs tend to be covered. Finally, look at the possible costs of repairs in the future. It's not uncommon for repairs to escalate to several thousand dollars. One repair in that range would more than make up for the investment.
