* Comparable to most small shredders, the Fellowes Powershred P-58CS offers a more economical solution with many of the same features of more expensive shredders.

Features/ Strengths:

* The Fellowes Powershred P-58CS is a light-use desk side cross cut paper shredder that can easily fit compactly in any home or office. This shredder is small enough to easily fit under or on your desk for easy accessibility.

* This shredder features SafeSense Technology, which immediately shuts the motor down when hands or body parts get too close to the shredder throat. This allows for increased safety in homes with young children or pets.

* The P-58CS provides a great inexpensive alternative for a home or small office that only needs to shred a few documents on a regular basis. This shredder offers a price point under a hundred dollars and provides great value for your money.

* Featuring auto start/stop technology, the P-58CS ensures smooth and efficient shredder operation. This means that you don't need to worry about turning the shredder on and off between documents. It will automatically sense the paper when you insert it into the throat.

Limitations/ Weaknesses:

* This Shredder claims that it can shred up to 9 sheets of paper at a time. However, when we attempted to shred 9 sheets of paper the P58CS struggled with the capacity. It also took about twenty seconds to fully shred the lot of paper fed through it.

* This machine is intended for light home and small office shredding, the P-58CS shredder will struggle shredding multiple sheets of thicker paper or multiple pieces of mail.

* Though capable of shredding credit cards, it is not recommended to do so on a regular basis. The machine should not be used to shred more than one or two credit cards at a time as the motor struggles with the weight of the cards.

* Although the P58-CS is a cross cut shredder and is more secure than a comparable strip cut model, organizations with highly sensitive information may want to consider upgrading to a micro cut paper shredder to increase security.

* This machine is not designed for continuous shredding. After a few minutes of shredding the motor will actually turn off so that the shredder can cool down. It is primarily meant to shred a few documents or pieces of mail per day as they arrive or are produced. Users who need to do larger volumes of shredding will probably want to consider a larger shredder with a constant duty motor.

Recommendation:

* The Fellowes Powershred P-58CS Shredder should really only be used in either small offices or homes that plan on shredding only a few papers regularly. This shredder is in no means a heavy use shredder, and should be treated as such.

* Though the P-58CS struggles with multiple sheets of 24lb and thicker papers at any time, it will quickly and efficiently shred through 2-5 pages at a time of standard copy paper.

* For the price, this shredder will provide a decent option for light home or small office use; however, for a slight increase in price the new GBC Shredmaster GEX106 may provide a quieter, higher-capacity shredder for your needs.
