As another year passes since the attacks on the World Trade Center happened September 11, 2001. People remember those who lost their lives in the tragedy and take a time out to reflect on all that’s happened since the event occurred seven years ago. People remembered, reflected, and mourned once again as we have been for seven years. The devastating effects that took place seven years ago are still fresh in the mind of the entire country especially those in New York City. A lot of change has happened since the attacks hit, more tightened security, more conscious Americans, as well as increased awareness to the happenings outside of our country. It is no surprise that seven years later there is still a tremendous amount of work to be done and things to be sorted out. One of the major issues that is still in the threshold is the World Trade Center Captive Fund. The WTC captive fund was created to ensure that those who worked on the aftermath at the WTC site were provided with the appropriate medical care. However, only 6 out of over 9,000 claims have been settled. This makes for many sick and out of work volunteers that helped out at the WTC site.
Construction for the new WTC site is underway, despite the revised budget and design. It seems as if everyone is moving on with their lives taking the proper steps needed to move on. However, for those who were injured from working at the WTC site are still suffering, just as those who lost loved ones in the attacks are. It seems as though the $1 Billion dollar WTC captive fund is being depleted from attorney and other fees that have been acquiring for the last seven years. The State, city, and federal government are still determining who has liability. This issue is a very important one because it determines who will be liable for giving out the allotted monies. The city applied to be immune for liability in which the Bush administration and congress agreed to cover the gap in insurance coverage.
WTC workers who are still struggling to get back to work because of problems caused from complications should be tended to immediately. For they are out of work and have medical problems due to hazardous materials and toxins in the air caused by the worksite conditions. In situations like these it is important to contact a lawyer to discuss your options.
