As sports fans will be aware, Association Football, that is also known as soccer, or just plain football, is now the game with the most international support. The USA have a different national game also called football or American football which is completely different. North Americans do participate in soccer as well, but with nothing like the fervor they connect to their national style. Many attempts have been made to popularize the international game in their country, as yet they haven't proved to be wholly successful, but it would be great if they teamed up with the sporting world at large.
Progressing from its humble roots, football has increased its appeal, to become the most popular sport on earth. Global football is now a huge sports conglomerate. Well known players, sign on to soccer clubs that are household names, and function as large business enterprises. The game has attracted successful entrepreneurs as owners, and the best players and coaches get payments comparable with movie stars.
Football is a big player in the leisure industry, and has wide financial and cultural implications. Until fairly recently, it was gate monies that were responsible for acquiring the funds to finance the clubs, but in recent times there has been something of an explosion, that has developed soccer into a worldwide leisure colossus. Vast amounts of money are involved in TV deals, which has stimulated the brisk development of stay at home spectators. Millions more fans still attend football stadiums to watch their favorite clubs. Most sports have become big business, within which there is nothing bigger than worldwide soccer.
International football has been a great unifier but that hasn't been without a measure of difficulty, along the way. Footballers from all ethnic groups have become acclaimed because of their abilities, when they have been sought after by clubs in other countries. Renowned players from Africa, Australia, the United States, Europe, Asia and South America are idolized, and they are regularly transferred between clubs in the international football extravaganza. Happily this has gone a long way towards getting rid of intolerant race related behaviour.
Once upon a time, boxing was amongst few sports, that offered any way of escape, from poverty. You may consider that football has created similar opportunities, and even though only a few contenders progress to become professional football players, they outnumber those who become rich as pugilists. From Europe to South America, Australia, and elsewhere, young people from deprived backgrounds come together to develop their game. Some will become recognized as being outstandingly gifted, and will be catapulted into rich living standards, to become football idols, of the sporting world.
