Emigration To New Zealand
Thomas Pretty
The number of British people undertaking the emigration process to enter New Zealand is steadily growing. Understandably the benefits of making the move down under are there, an excellent climate, outstanding natural beauty and a brilliant way of life are just some of these benefits. In addition, the government of New Zealand actually encourages emigration by putting in place procedures that allow skilled migrants easier access to the country. These policies seem to be successful, especially when the figures pertaining to emigration levels are considered.
The most recent emigration figures released by the Kiwi government have shown that their policy to attract skilled workers as migrants has been successful. The reason this policy has been put in place is down to the fact that the country's economy and society more generally has certain deficiencies that need to be filled by workers with specific skills. In a world where countries in development are becoming increasingly competitive it is exactly this sort of policy that is needed should an economy grow and become sustainable.
The Immigration Minister in the New Zealand government has an important role to play in securing the future of his country. This is why this policy has been developed, in government circles it is widely believed that attracting skilled migrants to Kiwi shores is a way for the country to build a skills base that will ensure the stability and sustainability of the economy for generations. Whatever the proposed reasons it is clear that emigration levels from Britain are on the increase, in twelve months the number of migrants entering New Zealand has increased by almost twenty percent. Whether this can be wholly attributed to this government policy is not ascertainable although it has most likely played a large part in the rise.
In terms of exact numbers it is believed that more than one hundred thousand workers were granted permits to work and live in New Zealand in the last year. Those hoping for emigration come from a wide variety of industries and business sectors, from mechanical engineering through to horticultural services. The list of skilled workers covers many different jobs and roles, predominantly workers are needed in the medical sector, a part of the Kiwi society that is experiencing the greatest shortcomings, hence nurses, doctors even radiologists are in high demand. In addition those in the educational sphere are also required in great numbers; subsequently teachers have a great chance of successful emigration.
As news travels of the New Zealand immigration policy it is unsurprising that record numbers of emigration applications have been submitted. On average there is about a sixty percent success rate for applications, meaning that success is in no way guaranteed. While being a skilled migrant may well increase the chances of success, poor health or evidence of poor character will seriously harm an applicant's chances of being accepted. In many cases proof of both of these in the form of a full medical and a local police statement may be needed in order to be accepted as a New Zealand resident.
Hopefully this article has given an idea of how the New Zealand immigration policy operates and why emigration is such an attractive proposition to many. For those in the skilled migrant category making the move down under is an extremely realistic opportunity.
