After A Tubal Ligation
Elisa Cruz
Having children is a huge responsibility as we are all aware and it is a personal decision. Likewise, so is tubal ligation and how you may wish to handle your ability to bring children into the world. Tubal ligation is a procedure which lowers a woman's level of fertility by preventing an egg from passing through the fallopian tubes. This is done by tying the tubes together thus blocking the passage of the egg. Though this surgery can be permanent, it is often possible to reverse the procedure. The health of the woman and her response to the surgery determines if a reversal can become successful.
Is tubal ligation right for you? There is a lot of controversy over tubal ligation and its effects on the lives of couples. Often, doctors will not even perform tubal ligation unless a woman is at least 30 years old. Younger woman have thus found it difficult to locate physicians who are willing to perform tubal ligation. This is of course because of liability issues and the fear that most women under 30 are not making mature and well-planned decisions regarding their own reproductive abilities.
Tubal ligation is performed in various ways, some more invasive and others less invasive, all with their own set of risks and reversal success rates. It is important to be informed and fully aware of the options at your disposal as well as have realistic expectations should you decide to have the procedure done and later change your mind. It remains true though that many doctors are very knowledgeable in the field and various fertility doctors and clinics are able to reverse some tubal ligations with high success rates of pregnancy. There are many options with modern technology today, so women have the ability to choose how they wish to have a tubal ligation performed and with what success rate or reversal rate.
Some tubal ligation procedures offer the ability to pinch the fallopian tubes shut rather than burning or cutting them. This offers a higher reversal and pregnancy success rate if the woman should change her mind about pregnancy later in life. Also, tubal ligation is often thought to be an invasive procedure that is highly irreversible. Yet what modern technology is proving that tubal ligation need not always be highly irreversible and that woman have many more options that often thought.
Many fertility clinics offer information on financing that makes tubal ligation affordable. The cost of the procedure is usually around $3,000 to $10,000 depending on the woman's body, the situation, and the procedure. It need not be overly expensive and can usually fit into many budgets and financial lifestyles. For many couples, tubal ligation can mean greater freedom and the removal of fears and apprehension related to unwanted pregnancy. So whether you have or have not had children, tubal ligation may lead to a happier, more liberated, and healthier sexual life with your partner. It is important to commit to fully understanding all risks involved and to find a fertility clinic that is right for you.
