What is Viral Marketing?

Basically viral marketing is the art of word of mouth. What you need to do is create a buzz so that other people are talking about your company or your product. After all the best way to get a good customer is through word of mouth. People are much more likely to trust a recommendation then they are if they don't know you.

So how do you get people talking about you on Blogs, Forums and social networks? Well there are a number of ways in which you can do this and we have put a few ideas below:

Create Interesting Content

If you want people to talk about you then you need to create some content that people will want to discuss. It might be through a reaction to what you have written so you will need to create something controversial or cutting edge that people will refer to. This will get your name out there and increase your profile.

Create a Product

This is quite simple but what you need to do is create something that people will want to pass around. This could be a video or a document that people will find beneficial. It could contain some training material that will help people understand what you do. The aim with this is to get people sharing it and telling others about it. The more this happens the higher your profile and the more recommendations you will get.

Create a System

This is a slightly more difficult thing to do but it follows the basic premise of marketing. Why would anybody want to buy from you? Well quite often it is because they have heard of you, but how do they know.

Believe it or not it might be because you are the first company they have heard of. This has a great weight with people. Think about something like a Hoover, this is actually a brand name but has now made it into the dictionary as another word for a vacuum cleaner. You will be surprised at how many sales Hoover will get just because they were the first company.

That does not mean you can't break into that market and Dyson did it by being the first vacuum cleaner without a bag and so began to take over the market. Why? Simply because they were the first people had heard of and so they believed they were the best.

What does this all mean for you? Well you need to create yourself a niche. You need to be the first at something and you need to get people talking about it. Then if someone follows it won't matter because you were the first which gives you extra importance.

The aim of the above is just to create yourself a profile online, to get as much coverage for you or your products as possible. The more places you or your website appears the more chance you have of getting traffic and converting sales, all you need to decide is what makes you special and then start telling people.
