Marriage Of A Young Stockbroker
James Walsh
These two terms clearly explained help one understand that marriages are definitely not for the young. People in their late teens and early twenties can never be expected to fulfil the increased responsibilities that come with marital life to make the union stable.
Marriage in Late Teens and Early Twenties
A few alarming facts are mentioned here:
?1 out of 2 teen marriages ends in a divorce within the first 15 years.
?The divorce rate of people who get married at 22 is exactly double the divorce rate of couples getting married at 28.
A stable marital union is made possible by good education and a well-paying job. Teenaged spouses lack the education and consequently a proper job. The ensuing financial difficulties and poverty turn spouses abusive.
Marriages that stand on lack of education and money and result in physical and emotional abuse never last. This explains the high divorce figures.
Marriage in Mid-twenties
Spouses, who are in their mid-twenties, make good marital partners and enjoy stability in their married life. As mentioned, marital stability is based on a number of factors.
?Education and Marital Stability
Well-educated people have stable married lives. By 24, men and women attain proper educational qualifications. Education equips both the spouses to base their relationship on a status of equality.
The educational status of the woman, specifically, determines the quality of her married life. But sceptics prefer to disagree. They feel that education gives women more independence and they easily quit marital union. This view lacks justification. Proper educational background basically prevents a woman from forming an alliance that could prove incompatible.
?Inexperience
Balanced individuals make better spouses. Prior to their mid-twenties people are not aware of independent living and the responsibilities that entail a life lived alone. In other words, they are inexperienced. And the sudden responsibilities thrust by marriage leaves them unhappy and subsequently divorced.
?Independent Personality
A stable marriage is fully dependent upon finding the right partner. And it is impossible to find the right partner till a person has a well-developed personality. A person withdraws from the parental shadow and develops an independent personality only in the mid-twenties.
?Economic Well Being and Marital Stability
Either of the spouses would have developed the tools required for making a good living by this age. The contribution made by a woman towards household expenditure also has a positive impact on marital stability. Families are economically and psychologically happier when both the spouses earn. Economic well-being creates security and happiness.
Marriage in the Thirties
People who married in their 28th year divorced the least. Divorce rates stabilised after the 30s. Divorce rates tend to be stable for couples who married in their 30th year and above. Age no longer impacts marital stability.
Mean Age of Marriage since Historic Times
Since historic times the average age at which people married in the UK has always ranged around 25.1 to 29.6 years. These assertions are based on statistics compiled from the 15th to 18th century birth and marriage certificates of people. Only economically weaker people married a bit late.
These figures lend credence to the fact that age determines the extent of the marital duration to a great extent; for age determines the attitude of people towards money, sex and children. Stable marriages are dependent upon these issues and the amount of respect spouses have for each other.
People develop a healthy attitude towards these issues only if they have a well-developed and strong personality. This also enables them to choose a partner who would be compatible to their nature. Emotional compatibility and economic prosperity enable a happily stable married life. These requirements are fulfilled by people aged above 24. Mid-twenties is the ideal age to get married.
