Make Someone Feel Guilty
Janice Willingham
Are you limiting yourself from experiencing exceptional success like your wealthy colleagues? Do you sabotage your success when your customer or prospect makes the decision to purchase your product or join your business opportunity? Do you experience anxiety or guilt over the transaction of money? If so, you may be suffering from money phobia, which is also known by the term of chrematophobia, chrometophobia or the fear of money.
This issue can impact your life and at times can cause panic attacks. Everyone experiences money phobia in their own way and may have different symptoms which typically includes shortness of breath, rapid breathing, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, an overall feeling of dread which results in fear and doubt. Like most fears and phobias, money phobia is created by the unconscious mind as a protective mechanism.
When I sense that money is going to exchange hands I begin this internal dialogue which involves questions like, what if they buy the product and don't like it? What if they join my organization and they are not successful? I get to a point that I don't want to take their money until all my doubts are alleviated or if the prospect can assure me that they have a genuine interest and desire in my product or business despite their own personal outcome.
Most of the time, I am unable to follow through with the transaction. I sabotage my efforts by convincing the prospect why they shouldn't spend their money instead of taking their money with conviction and purpose. I am one of those people who is uncomfortable taking or asking for money from someone as it relates to my product or business.
I feel guilty about taking their money because I internalize my prospect's feelings of whether they will like the product or if they will be successful in my business venture. Guilt can be defined as a refusal to give yourself permission to adopt a standard in which you want to practice.
Is the guilt and anxiety really about money phobia or self-esteem? I was listening recently to an audio from Lisa Diane where she talks about how your emotions create your beliefs, your beliefs create your thoughts and your thoughts create your life. The subconscious mind is where your beliefs are housed.
What you believe determines much of your reality and also influences how you see and experience the world around you. Further, what you believe determines the types of thoughts that occupy your mind, the actions you take, the habits you create and most importantly, your overall perspective on life.
It doesn't really matter if what you believe is true or not as far as the world is concerned. However, your beliefs can cause your subconscious mind to arrange your life and experiences so that they become the truth for you.
In other words, your subconscious goes to great lengths to validate your beliefs and works toward ensuring that everything you believe is actually true. Because of our intervening subconscious, it may explain why some people are more successful than others, while others fail at virtually everything they attempt regardless of the endeavor.
The subconscious can be paralyzing and stifle any form of success if you let it continue to be the driving force in your life. The goal is too change this form of thinking to a point where you're focused on achieving your goals without the guilt attached to questioning your motives or those of your prospects.
It's all about successful thinking and performing activities that will bring about results that you want to achieve not only personally, but professionally. Again, it's all about changing your mindset and limiting the amount of time you spend in your comfort zone.
Most importantly believe that you can achieve your goals and be successful despite the odds and regardless of what you have experienced in the past. The moment is now. Don't continue to wallow in your old habits and beliefs when there are so many challenges to conquer as you climb the pinnacle of success.
