Management Games For Students
George Purdy
Employees everywhere are playing games at work. No, we’re not talking about internet and ipod games employees try to hide from their supervisors (although that still happens), we’re talking about management games designed to enhance employee productivity, facilitate retention, and improve workplace relations. These games are actually innovative management training aids.
Although management games might resemble the team-building games you played in school, they have very different goals. Most games played in school generally focused on making their participants more familiar with one another and "breaking the ice," but management games have the more sophisticated aim of improving the way that coworkers interact. These games still incorporate the important element of introduction, but they are much more results-oriented.
The science of mathematics has developed what is known as gaming theory. The world of economics and business has adopted this model and developed management games which are used to coaches to advise businesses. These games are played with mangers and their teams to help develop teamwork and identify the strengths and weaknesses of a team in order to move them toward success in their chosen field.
Skills in change management can be learned through games that offer learning opportunities for everyone in the workplace. Using often-encountered real life situations, game participants learn to synergize their efforts for a better end product. The games teach cooperative work ethic and style, and invoke team spirit among those who play. These games simulate the work environment and its challenges to provide and enjoyable learning experience.
Business team coaching is invaluable in today's competitive business world. One form of training that is commonly used is management gaming. These games can bring out principles and ideas that might be dry and tedious for employees to learn as a list in a classroom setting. By playing a game, employees have fun learning and probably retain the concepts longer. Both educational type training and game training are readily available and can improve the teamwork of your employees.
Management games are not hard to start. They can be done casually with our employees without any type special equipment or purchases. There are a few that require clear instructions or simple props but all these items can be acquired with ease. The best part about the games is that there is variety so that if one does not pan out there are other for you to try. Go with what works for you.
All over the world, employees are playing games at work. It’s simple; they are taking advantage of the innovative management training aids known as management games. Many of these games are based on game theory because of this emphasis on teamwork as opposed to individual gains. The use of these games is becoming more popular and is replacing the classroom format of business team coaching. Skills in change management can be learned through games that offer learning opportunities for everyone in the workplace. The games teach cooperative work ethic and style, and invoke team spirit among those who play.
