Network marketing is one of the most effective ways to conduct business. The reason being that word of mouth advertising is much stronger then print. Think about it for a moment if a friend told you that they love Product A and what it did for them, then you will probably remember that when you go to male that purchase and you are comparing Product A to Product B. Which one are you libel to pick.
There are a large number of small business owners that don't do any networking, and the biggest reason is that they are scared. Public speaking is not an easy thing to do and it frightens most people. I have a few tips that can help you get over this fear.
First lets address the fear of public speaking. This is not as difficult as you may think; it does take a little bit of practice and preparation. I have listed a few things you can do help you get over this.
1. Your are a professional and what do professionals do? They study and they practice their craft. So step one is the most important, practice at every free moment of the day. Practice to where you have it down without even thinking about it. Till it becomes natural.
2. If you are going to a networking event, make sure to have everything you need the night before, if not sooner, and make sure you get plenty of rest.
3. While on the way to an event, you need to do 2 things. 1 you need to relax and start getting motivated. To steal a line from Happy Gilmore, "go to your happy place".
Now you might ask, well how do you deal with the fear of rejection? Well that's easy. Develop a rejection free 30sec or so advertisement for your business. Part of what lends to this fear is that you feel that you are trying to sell everyone in the room your product or service. This is the wrong attitude to have. Your goal when networking needs to be making contacts and how can you help them and how they can help you. Not selling them. Now if they need what you offer that's great and it becomes a selling opportunity; but it is not your goal. Follow steps here in order to develop your own spiel.
1. Introduce yourself and your company name.
2. This is important! Do not simply say the type of business you are in. Instead you want to create a 1 to 2 sentence statement of what your business does. Example "We help families create wonderful summer memories while staying cool and refreshed."
3. Tell them 1 or 2 important facts or typical hot buttons your clients will have.
4. Lastly tell them who the perfect client is for you. Basically this is your target market. And then ask them if they no anyone like that to please have them contact you. This is a friendly way of asking for referrals in a very rejection free way.
5. Try to keep it to no more than 30 seconds.
Follow the steps above and you'll be able to Network with out Fear. And don't forget to practice.
