From Hell To Heaven
Evangeline Auld
has it ever struck you how many homes have just the most awful bathrooms?
It is as if the occupiers complete their ablutions, eyes shut, and totally unaware of their surroundings.
Some homes may have a very pleasant sittingroom, a well-designed kitchen and attractively furnished bedrooms but when it comes to the bathroom it is just a necessary afterthought.
Ghastly , depressing, unkempt, uncared for and usually not too warm , these so very necessary areas are sorely in need of an extreme makeover. One's visit to the bathroom should be pleasurable, not just something to be hurried because the surroundings are so inhospitable.
In a neglected bathroom, as you enter, the dreary floor covered in old uneven tiles sets the tone. Various articles of clothing draped over the shower rail, towels dropped anywhere and of course the missing plugs for basin and bath . Where are they? Not apparently visible. The lack of this necessity can prove very frustrating.
Your eye is drawn straight to the chipped, cracked and missing wall tiles, obviously caused by the broken towel rail – discovered leaning in a corner. - hence the untidy towels.
If you were enormously tall, there might be a possibility of seeing yourself in the tiny, fly spotted mirror on the front of the rickety medicine cabinet. Well, now what can you do with the toothbrush? Leave it on the edge of the wash basin or parked on the window ledge with the others?
As a pleasurable, stress free experience, this bathroom is hardly to be recommended. The colour, or should I say colours, usually a few of them, would also make you feel on edge , perhaps start hallucinating! It looks sometimes as though people feel that whatever paint is left over from other projects will be good enough for the bathroom, no matter how unsuitable. Violently clashing and haphazardly applied, obviously in a rash moment of enthusiastic D I Y. Perhaps that is the reason why the owners are in and out of there so quickly. There can’t be much desire incentive to linger more than necessary .
To renovate the bathroom should not be too costly if it is managed in an organised way. Firstly you should give proper thought to what is of the most importance in terms of comfort , comfort and convenience . Following the necessary actions steps to achieve this can be done gradually as and when money and time allow.
If you are informed and determined this can be both creative and creative experience. The feeling Your sense of pride and achievement will be lasting. Each time you visit the well-designed , inviting and well-designed room – your very own bathroom - your wish will be to linger there with = eyes wide open.
