Freshwater Coin Pearl Necklace
Robert D. Thomson
People have an instinctive desire to look good. In ancient times, men and women pierced their bodies with gold rings and tattoos as a way of attracting attention to themselves. Artistic forms of jewelry such as twigs of trees or animal teeth were adorned on their bodies to please the eyes of others in their tribe.
There is not much difference today. Now, modern jewelry consists of precious metals and stones such as gold, silver, pearl, emerald, or diamond. However, most of these gems are worth a fortune. Only freshwater pearls (those taken from mollusks and oysters living in fresh water) are a little less expensive. But there is another way to look good without straining your finances - wearing coin pearl jewelries.
Modern Style
Maybe you are aware of what a classic pearl looks like - it is usually rounded or egg-shaped. But have you ever seen a pearl shaped like a coin? It is flat - a different twist from its traditional shape. Born out of the creativity of manufacturers and designers, these coin-shaped pearls are used by the modern women of today to accessorize their outfits.
Coin pearl jewelries are either cultured or man-made. Cultured pearls are produced when humans intervene with nature and insert an object inside the shell of mollusks and oysters to produce a pearl with an eccentric shape. But that's the only intervention that humans do to these pearls. Nature takes over the rest of the process.
On the other hand, man-made pearls are made from either shell, plastic or glass. Sometimes these artificial pearls would be crafted so carefully, that it's difficult to tell the difference from the original.
Multiple Materials
Pearl jewelries are never made using its pure material. They have to be embedded or set in either silver or gold. For example, you cannot wear necklaces, pendants and bracelets made of pearl if there is no solid chain or clasp to hold it together. The same is true for earrings and rings.
For coin pearl jewelries, designers have created various complex designs mixing materials such as Swarovski crystals, rubies, and other gems. It comes in a variety of colors too. But natural fresh water coin pearls only have three natural colors: white, pink and lavender.
To achieve the best effect, wear matching pearl earrings, necklace, bracelet and ring. This will complement you and your outfit in a subdued manner. If your outfit has loud and bold colors, put on a light-colored pearl jewelry collection. While if you are wearing a dress with muted colors, you can slip on pearls with bright hues.
Budget Conscious
The great thing about coin pearl jewelries is that they look very chic and trendy, yet they are very affordable. You can use it for daytime casual attire and even for nighttime formal wear.
Let's face it - in these hard economic times, you wouldn't want to spend a fortune in jewelry which is more of a luxury rather than a necessity. In fact, even well-to-do people wear reasonably priced jewelries in their day-to-day activities nowadays. Their expensive treasures are only worn during special occasions.
