Herbal Treatment For Diabetes
John Adison
The use of herbs for treating human diseases dates back to prehistoric era when man was still extremely primitive. Nature has endowed humanity with the gifts of herbal treatments for many of the ailments that befall man. Although in prehistoric era, herbs were indiscriminately use as man was still experimenting with the different array of natural herbs available. Herbal remedies and treatments has come of age and they are very effective for treating different diseases including diabetics.
Bitter melon is worldwide known for its effectiveness in treating diabetes. Bitter melon chemically contains a compound that is very much similar to insulin and sometimes also referred as p-insulin. Researches have shown that when it is taken continuously for some period has the ability to substitute the insulin in the body. It also contains steroidal saponins called charantin, peptides similar to that of peptides and certain alkaloids that effectively control sugar level in blood.
For many decades diabetes has been a major health problem prevailing in the society. Initially people did not give much importance to the disease which resulted in the outbreak of the illness. If you do not take treatment at the right time it can lead to many complications. Diabetes Mellitus can be caused due to many reasons. Pancreas plays a vital role in the normal functioning of our body by generating insulin. Any defect in this phenomenon can lead to elevation of sugar levels in the blood.
Though the primary chemical content may vary, depending on the host plant, they typically include glycoprotein, polypeptides, flavonoids, triterpine, saponins, caffeic acid, lignans, choline, vitamin c and histamine. European mistletoe extracts can be used to stimulate the secretion of insulin from the pancreas cells, and this has the ability to increase the blood-sugar levels in people living with diabetes.
While treating insulin -dependent diabetes, it is recommended that the patient should combine the herbal treatment with injections for four weeks. This is to reduce the volume of the insulin after which the injection dosage should be stopped and then continue with the herbal treatment. While administering the injections, the volume of the injection should be reduced to half after the first two weeks and at the expiration of the four weeks, it should be discontinued. However, the patient must continue to check the urine and blood regularly in order to monitor their sugar levels.
Some people may be comfortable with their drug medications but there are those who prefer the natural way of treating their illnesses. The term for the process of treating diabetes in natural ways is called naturopathy. Naturopathy consists of Herbal medicines. Recent investigations have scientifically established the efficacy of certain natural plants which may be effective, including balsam pear, bitter melon, garlic, onion, Asian ginseng, bilberry, the extract of ginkgo biloba, cinnamon and barberry.
