One of the biggest pitfalls is picking the wrong affiliate program to promote.

There are many different things you need to think about and consider before you give up your own time and work hard to write content, set up PPC campaigns and market the products the program has to offer.

You could pick the wrong program for many reasons but the most important things to look for are

- Are they trustworthy?

Do they company look trustworthy, do they have a forum? Do they respond to you quickly when you have a question? Are the payments on time? All of these things are important when picking a program to promote. Do some research on forums and Google to find out more about a company before you join up.

- Would you buy the product you are trying to sell?

There is no point promoting a product that no one buys. A poor converting product will damage your business. You could send thousands of targeted visitors to a website but if no one buys your hard work will be wasted

- How much commission do you make?

Always find out how much a company pays for each sale. A low rate will mean you have to work much harder to make a good income online.

High commission rates will be a big part of your success.

When I first started as an affiliate marketer I used to struggle to make any money at all. When I did manage to make a commission it was not a true reflection of my hard work and I found it very hard to persist and keep trying to succeed.

One day as I was searching the internet I came across a program that was paying commissions so high it would take me 10-20 sales of my products to even match it.

Motivated and excited I quickly signed and began to market one of the highest converting products the program had to offer. Many days later I had written many pages to promote these new products and were actively marketing them online. After only a few days I made two high commissions in quick succession. The Payments were more than all my previous commissions put together.

From this point on I was hooked on affiliate marketing. With my new lease of life and motivation towards my business I quickly promoted another product and had good results once again.
