Home Heating And Cooling Systems
Gen Wright
Heating a home has always been an interesting challenge, especially for homes in colder countries. To overcome this challenge, we have to pay attention to three important elements. They are heat and energy efficiency, noise level, and cost. When consumers look at heating systems, these should be the three major factors to consider. Let's take a look at what is currently available in the market.
In general, there are two types of boiler systems - water and steam. Each system uses a different type of technology. Let's start with steam boiler systems.
Steam boiler system.
Steam systems are less commonly seen in modern times. This is because the entire heating system is considered much more complicated when compared to a water boiler system. Pressure gauges, steam valves, and powerful fans are required for this system to work. Clearly, with such heavy duty equipment, a lot of energy is consumed. The boiler is powered by gas, oil or electricity. The steam is then transported through the house via pipes and radiators.
And because of the complexity of the steam boiler system, it is more expensive to install and consumes more energy. This leads to higher long term costs. On top of that, steam boiler systems are not known to distribute heat evenly. For these reasons, the water boiler system has risen quickly to replace the steam boiler system.
Water boiler system.
The water boiler system is a much simpler system. Water is first heated in a boiler to a temperature that is above 150 degree Fahrenheit. A pump, controlled by a thermostat, is responsible for circulating the boiling water through pipes and radiators. The radiators are much smaller when compared with those required by the steam boiler system.
Due to the absence of powerful fans and huge radiators, the water boiler system is remarkably silent. One can expect to have a good night's rest even when the water boiler system is on.
On top of that, the water boiler system can spread heat more evenly when compared with the older boiler system. Since fans are used to spread heat around the house by the steam boiler system, so is dust and bacteria. For those with sensitive noses or skin, this means additional health hazards.
When you make a quick comparison between the two systems, water boiler systems stood out as the clear winner. The system is much simpler to install, cost less to install, and cost less to maintain. The devices that the system uses are also much smaller, which means that less space is required for the system to run. Air is cleaner due to the absence of annoying loud fans that come with steam boiler systems.
Improvements are constantly being made to heating systems. Radiators are becoming smaller and smaller, and they take up lesser and lesser space. As a homeowner, this is great news. Soon, you won't even notice the radiators are there!
