The fungi likes moist places on our body such as between toes, thighs and scalp. This is not a serious condition and mostly easy to cure in 4 weeks. The treatment is given according to the area of infection.
There are topical medications in the forms of cream and powders available over the counter. Or the pharmacist should suggest one with miconazole and clotrimazole. Even a Fungrx cream will do, they all have to be applied externally on the infected area.

The technical term for common infection in children is Tinea Corporis and very common in kids between age four and six. Like adults, topical medication is available. However oral anti fungal medication is available by prescription only. Griseofulvin, an pleasant oral liquid suspension is effective and has been in use for nearly five decades now. It may take 6-8 weeks to cure.
In adults, Tinea Capitis or infection of the scalp can be treated with special shampoos available over the counter at the pharmacy. Or an oral Griseofulvin can be administered too. You could always combine a topical anti fungal medication to go with it.
The feet infection or Tinea Pedis can also be cured with oral griseofulvin. Avoid shoes and go for sandals and make sure you discard the old socks thoroughly.
If your nails have gone hard and colorless, oral terbinafine should be given daily. In case of toes for about 12 weeks and in case of finger nails for 6 weeks.
A word of caution : if it does not respond to home remedy, doctors help is recommended. Physicians normally put you on stronger medication or antibiotics after initial diagnosis. Sometimes a corticosteroid cream may be prescribed.
