Horse Of Different Color
Michelle The Jeweler
A durable and sparkling gemstone with a hardness of 7, quartz has been loved for thousands of years as a gemstone of ornamentation and healing. Quartz can be found through many countries in all geologic environments. Largest deposits for natural quartz crystals are the United States (especially Arkansas) and Brazil.
Quartz is found in many countries and many geologic environments. Major producers of natural quartz crystals are the United States (particularly Arkansas) and Brazil. Natural quartz is rarely used as found in nature (especially in electrical applications), except as a gemstone. Natural quartz crystals have too many chemical impurities and physical flaws. As a result, a commercial process of manufacturing pure, flawless, electronics-grade quartz was developed.
The most beloved and well known color is Amethyst the purple shade of quartz what causes the color is an iron impurity (Fe+3). The most valuable stones are the dark purple African stones with a flash of red. Its was one of the most pricey gems in the world until the finding of mines in Brazil made the price fall.
New and popular are shade of this stone, a lilac shade also called "Lilac Quartz" and a soft pink tone called "Rose de France" both these shades are bright and sparkling. The more familiar Rose Quartz: is a more rare type of quartz, but it is usually milky and cloudy because of the inclusion of rutiles. That good sized cut stones are hard to find, and even tiny gems tend to be milky looking. It's usually used as cabochons or for carving.
The last of these new quartzes to hit the stage is green quartz, proper name prasiolite and strangely also called "Green Amethyst" it is a soft cool minty green and is as bright and sparkling a gemstone as the lilac and rose shades of quartz. It is the new soft green for fashion this shade goes with other colors rather then clashing like the peridot gem can. Making green amethyst a perfect addition for fashion pallets.
