College credit cards are the cards that have been specially created for high school students. College cards are more better known as high school credit cards. College credit cards allow the students to experience the benefits of credit cards much sooner in their life. Through high school credit cards, the university students are able to become more educated about credit cards and their benefits. In fact, for most of the students, their high school credit card is their first credit card that acts as a beginning to the world of credit cards. Some other university students might have previously used other credit cards linked to their mother's credit card account; however, for such students too, their high school credit card is the first one that is really theirs.
College credit cards are not very different from other kinds of cards in the basic sense; they function in the same manner as any credit card would. Nonetheless, there are some differences, which basically arise from the fact that high school credit cards are used by people who have no prior experience with credit cards and who perhaps don't realize the concept of credit cards completely. Hence, the credit card producer is at risk with issuing credit cards (high school credit cards) to such people whom he is not sure about. Most of the students don't have a credit history either. In such a case, the supplier of high school credit card cannot be sure of getting the credit card bill payments in time (and even receiving them at all). To act against such risks, the producer of high school credit card requires the mother of the student to co-sign the high school credit card application application as a guarantee. Moreover, the credit limit on high school credit cards is usually around $600-$1200 per month, which is lower than what it is for other credit cards (this credit limit is usually sufficient to fulfil the regular needs of a university student.) Another risk mitigation instrument used by the high school credit card producers is the APR or interest rates. The APR on high school credit cards is generally higher than that for other cards. Again, this is done to discourage the university students from overspending on their high school credit card and finally not being able to pay their credit card bills.
However, if we were to look at these impositions in a positive sense, we would find that these are actually in favour of the student (who is still getting trained to take on the real world of credit cards). Moreover, high school credit cards also help the university students in establishing a good credit history which is another important benefit that becomes handy when the university student needs any type of loan at a later stage in his/her life.
