The beauty and craftsmanship that goes into Moorish design has been unmatched for centuries. Designs, patterns, colors, fabrics, metals and art work make an instant impression of ancient royalty.
No matter which style of mirror, lamps, vases and stools you prefer, there is something suited to your taste when it comes to this area of design. You simply cannot go wrong with the traditional and ethnic design of Moroccan home decor.
1-Moroccan Mosaic Table Tops
Table tops with colorful mosaic patterns, carved inlays or painted designs are a step above the common wooden, metal and glass tables. They are ornate and decorative by themselves and do not need any other adornment. Moroccan mosaic table tops can be used alone and they also go well with certain lamps and vases of similar Mediterranean design.
2- Moroccan Pottery
Moroccan pottery is still made the old fashioned way. The clay is formed with human hands and finished without going through assembly lines. When you purchase a handcrafted Moroccan vase, you know for sure you are getting an original piece of art. Vases and urns are of raw natural material, painted with colorful patterns or stamped with metal.
3-Moroccan Lighting
Interior design would be less interesting without the use of lights. Moroccan home decor includes the use of a wide variety of types of lamps, chandeliers, lanterns and sconces. The type of design you will want depends on how much light you wish to cast in the room. Lampshades are made from the skin of goats and sheep, stained glass, metal or beads. What varies less is the tone of the colors. The colors of Moroccan home decor are typically earthy and full of life.
4-Moroccan Mirrors
Mirrors for bedrooms and living rooms are made from henna stained camel bone or metal filigree. Marvelously decorated frames surround large mirrors. If you go for a simpler look, the frames may be of one solid color with lacey design.
5-Moroccan Room Dividers
Room dividers are the perfect choice for privacy screening or just for decoration. For an added touch, hang lanterns from them or even a Moroccan star. These are perfect for a changing area, to block off corners where children and pets should not go, or even to offer a personal space for an in-home office.
6- Moroccan Area Rugs
No room is complete without at least one area rug. The traditional designs and rich colors of Moroccan rugs are one of a kind show pieces and are perfect for the floor or hung on the wall as a decorative tapestry. Hand-tied original rugs from the Mediterranean are woven in the same manner as the Berber tribes wove them for centuries. These flat-woven and hand-tied rugs make great accents or may be used as a central piece of home decor.
By no means is that all there is to Moroccan home decorating. Mediterranean design includes many more accessories, furniture, lighting, floors, doors and paintings. If you are thinking of redecorating your home, Moroccan design is highly recommended.
Just a few pieces of these divinely crafted pieces of art will make for a tasteful change. Moroccan home decor may be ancient but its appeal is timeless.
